පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයනාංශයේ අංශාධිපති ආචාර්ය පූජ්‍ය කොග්ගල්ලේ විජිත හාමුදුරුවන්ගේ අනුශාසනා පරිදි කථිකාචාර්ය බුද්ධි සුගන්ධි, සහාය කථිකාචාර්ය ආචාර්ය තුසිත රාජපක්ෂ, හර්ෂණී හද්දැල්ල, හිමාෂි එරන්දි ඇතුළු ආචාර්‍ය මණ්ඩලයේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් සංවිධානය කරන්නට යෙදුණු අධ්‍යයන පර්‍යේෂණ චාරිකාව සාර්ථකව සිදු කරගැනීමට ලබාදුන් සහයෝගය අගය කරමි.

තවද කතරගම පුදබිම ආශ්‍රිතව තිබෙන ඓතිහාසික සිද්ධස්ථාන නැරැඹීමට වගේ ම වාර්ෂිකව කතරගම පුදබිමේ දී සිදුකරනු ලබන පෙරහැර මංගල්‍යය නැරැඹීම එතරම් පහසු කාර්‍යක් නොවේ.

ලක්ෂ සංඛ්‍යාත පිරිසක් මෙම පෙරහැර මංගල්‍යය නැරැඹීමට සම්බන්ධ වෙනවා. ඒ අතරින් ඉතාමත් ම පහසුවෙන් එය දැක බලා ගැනීමට අවස්ථාව ලැබුනා.

ඒ සියලු කටයුතු සාර්ථක කරගැනීමට අවශ්‍ය කරන ප්‍රත්‍ය පහසුකම් සලසාදුන් අප අධ්‍යන අංශයෙහි අංශාධිපති ආචාර්ය පූජ්‍ය කොග්ගල්ලේ විජිත හිමිපාණන් වහන්සේගේ ගුරුදේවෝත්තම අතිපූජ්‍ය කපුගම ශ්‍රී සරණතිස්සාභිධාන නායක මාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේට විශේෂයෙන් ස්තූති කරමි.

ඒ වගේ ම මෙම අධ්‍යන පර්‍යේෂණ චාරිකාව සාර්ථකව නිමා කරගැනීමට සහයෝගය ලබාදුන් සමස්ත ආචාර්‍ය මණ්ඩලයටත් දෙවන , තෙවන , සිව්වන වසරවල විද්‍යාර්ථීන් හැමදෙනාටමත් ස්තූතිය පළකරමි.

VIBHAṂGA – Heelle Gnanananda Thero Felicitation Volume published by Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna, is honoured to publish VIBHAṂGA –Heelle Gnanananda Thero Felicitation Volume, an academic collection commemorating the appointment of the Most Venerable Heelle Gnanananda Thero as the Anunayake of the Amarapura Sri Saddhammawansa Maha Nikaya.

This felicitation volume comprises 38 research articles, including 18 scholarly contributions by Professors and Senior Professors representing various universities, together with articles by distinguished academics and researchers in the fields of Pali and Buddhist Studies. The Department sincerely appreciates the invaluable academic contributions of all the authors, whose research has enriched this commemorative publication and enhanced its scholarly significance.

The editorial work of this felicitation volume was undertaken by Ven. Dr. Koggalle Wijitha, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Ruhuna. The Department gratefully acknowledges his dedication, leadership, and tireless efforts in bringing this publication to completion. Coordinating the editorial process, organizing manuscripts, and preparing the final publication within a limited timeframe was a highly demanding and challenging undertaking.

The Department respectfully presented this publication to Senior Professor P. A. Jayanta, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna; Mr. I. Renuka Priyantha, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor S. Bandara; the academic staff of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies; and all the contributing authors, in appreciation of their invaluable encouragement and support.

The volume was ceremonially launched and respectfully presented to the Mahanayake Thero, the Anunayake Theros of the Amarapura Sri Saddhammawansa Maha Nikaya, and the Most Venerable Kapugama Sri Saranathissabhidhana Nayake Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Historic Purana Sri Abhinavaramaya, Kataragama. The ceremony was further graced by the presence of the Nayake Theros and many distinguished guests at Sella Kataragama.

The Department expresses its sincere gratitude to all the Professors, Senior Lecturers, researchers, and authors whose scholarly contributions made this publication possible. Their academic dedication and generous support have greatly enhanced the quality and scholarly value of this volume.

The Department also wishes to acknowledge the dedicated assistance of Ms. Harshani Haddella, Dr. Tusita Rajapaksha and the temporary academic staff of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies for their valuable support in collecting manuscripts, coordinating with authors.

Special appreciation is extended to Ven. R. Dhammasiri Thero, Temporary Lecturer of the Bhikkhu University of Anuradhapura, for his generous assistance in finalizing the manuscript and preparing it for publication.

The Department further conveys its heartfelt thanks to the printing team in Nugegoda and all its staff for their professionalism, patience, and unwavering cooperation in completing the printing of this volume despite the many challenges encountered during the publication process.

Seminar for A/L Students on Buddhist Civilization

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized a seminar for G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) students on the subject of Buddhist Civilization on 25 June 2026 at the Arts Auditorium, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna.

The programme was coordinated by Ms. Rajani Malavipathirana, Senior Lecturer, under the guidance of Ven. Dr. Koggalle Wijitha Thero, Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, and Mr. I. Renuka Priyantha, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna.

The Department further expresses its sincere gratitude to Ven. T. Ariyawimala Thero, Senior Lecturer, Prof. S. Bandara, and all academic and non-academic staff members who participated in and supported this programme. Their encouragement, commitment, and cooperation significantly contributed to the success of this educational initiative.

Appreciation Note – 3rd Guest Lecture

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Ruhuna, successfully conducted its 3rd Guest Lecture on “The Role of AI in Enhancing Research” on 24 June 2026 at the PB 3 Hall.

We extend our sincere gratitude to W.A.N.D. Wijesinghe, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, University of Ruhuna, for delivering an insightful and engaging lecture. His valuable contribution greatly enhanced students’ understanding of the role of Artificial Intelligence in contemporary academic research.

We also express our appreciation to Ven. Dr. Koggalle Wijitha, Coordinator of the programme, for his leadership and commitment in organizing this successful event.
