On September 7, 2026, there was a full-day workshop in Colombo at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) aiming at validating the collected data related to research on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Sri Lankan universities. This research was a collaborative effort of the ICES, University Grants Commission's Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE), and the GEE centres of the selected five universities including Peradeniya, Jaffna, Eastern, Kelaniya, and Ruhuna. Representing the University of Ruhuna, Dr. Indi Akurugoda, Director, CGEE, University of Ruhuna, Ms. Dinushi Randika, Research Lead, and one of the student researchers, Ms. Nimanthi Balasooriya participated in this workshop.

On July 22, 2026, we conducted another engaging session of our study circle, “Lens on Politics.” The session encouraged participants to critically reflect on contemporary issues related to occupational safety, labour rights, state responsibility, disaster governance, humanitarian response, and community resilience. Through these discussions, participants explored the broader political, social, and ethical dimensions of current affairs.

The session provided an open platform for meaningful dialogue, fostering critical thinking, media literacy, and diverse perspectives. We sincerely thank everyone who participated and contributed to making the discussion both insightful and engaging.
