The Civil Engineering Society of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in collaboration with the Center for Fire Safety Engineering, warmly invites students, academics, researchers, and industry professionals to an insightful guest lecture by Prof. Mark Stewart, Distinguished Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia.

This session will explore how risk-based thinking can improve decision-making in the face of extreme events such as terrorism and climate change. Drawing on internationally recognized research, Prof. Stewart will discuss practical engineering strategies that enhance infrastructure resilience while delivering significant social and economic benefits.

The Department of Civil Engineering extends its sincere congratulations to Prof. K. M. C. Konthesingha on receiving the President’s Award for Scientific Research, a prestigious national recognition of research excellence.

The award has been conferred for the paper published in a Q1 journal. The title of the paper is “Performance Evaluation of Cement Mortar Produced with Manufactured Sand and Offshore Sand as Alternatives to River Sand”, published in Construction and Building Materials (Vol. 297, Article No. 123784). The research was authored by Mr. A. Branavan, Prof. K. M. C. Konthesingha, and Emeritus Prof. S. M. A. Nanayakkara.

🎉 Congratulations on the Promotion to Professor 🎉

The Department of Civil Engineering extends its heartiest congratulations to Professor Ganga Samarasekara on her promotion to Professor in Civil Engineering.

Prof. Ganga Samarasekara obtained her Ph.D. and M.Eng. degrees from Saitama University, Japan, and her B.Sc.Eng. (Hons) degree from the University of Moratuwa. Her academic specialization is in Transportation Engineering and Engineering Education, with research interests that include walkability in street networks, vehicle emissions, traffic calming, and geometric design.

Prof. Ganga Samarasekara has rendered exemplary service to the department, including a six-year tenure as Head of the Department, during which she provided strong leadership and strategic direction. This promotion is a well-deserved recognition of her academic excellence, dedicated leadership, and significant contributions to the field of engineering education and research.

The Department of Civil Engineering wishes Professor Ganga Samarasekara continued success and distinction in all her future academic and professional endeavours.
