Sri Lanka marked a historic milestone with the inauguration of the Centre for Fire Safety Engineering, home to the nation’s first-ever dedicated fire testing facility, at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 11 February 2026. Established under the leadership of Prof. K. M. C. Konthesingha through a competitive research grant of LKR 169.9 million, the Centre represents a significant leap forward in fire safety research and structural fire testing in the country.

The ceremony was graced by Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. M.M. Pathmalal, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Deans of other faculties, academics, and distinguished representatives from industry and government institutions.

This landmark achievement strengthened Sri Lanka’s national research capacity and set the foundation for safer building design and stronger collaboration between academia and industry.

The Department Industry Consultative Committee (DICC) Meeting was successfully conducted on 27th November at the Centre of Excellence for Water and Sanitation (CEWAS), Ratmalana.
