The Journal of Studies in Humanities is a refereed bi-annual and bi-lingual multi-disciplinary research journal published by the Department of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale, which creates ample opportunities for both local and foreign researchers to publish their high quality research findings for dissemination of knowledge to fill the gaps available in the fields of research by opening scopes for future research.

The Journal of Studies in Humanities invites scholars, researchers, and academics to submit original research articles and review papers for publication in Volume 12 (Issues I & II).

Field Study: Traditional Food Culture

A field study focusing on the traditional food culture of Nelumkanniya Village in the Anuradhapura District was conducted for third-year History students of the Department of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL).

During the study, students observed and gained practical insights into traditional culinary knowledge systems and their contemporary applications. Furthermore, the study explored the historical significance of these practices in fostering a sustainable and healthy community.

A field study on the traditional pottery industry in Katu Potha village, Mihintale, was conducted on 19 March 2026 for fourth-year History Honours students of the Department of Humanities. During the study, students observed and acquired practical knowledge related to traditional industries, including indigenous knowledge systems and their application in contemporary development contexts.

The Head of the Department proudly presented the Department’s Annual Progress Review at the Internal Review: Annual Progress Evaluation Workshop – 2025 of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The presentation highlighted the Department’s academic, research, administrative, and quality assurance progress in line with the Faculty’s evaluation guidelines.
