There have been tremendous advancements in all sectors of activity during its 45-year history, securing an excellent brand reputation as premier
of higher education in Sri Lanka. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Moratuwa, which was established in February 2020, is the most recent addition to the University of Moratuwa, bringing the total number of faculties to six. More than 15 years ago, the UOM embarked on Biomedical Engineering research, collaborating with medical faculties from adjacent universities. In addition, the UOM launched the first Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program in Sri Lankan state universities. As a differentiating feature, UoM's infrastructure and technological expertise could help encourage the growth of the medical and related professions by providing a high-quality platform for teaching, research, and allied health sciences. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Moratuwa is the country's only Faculty of Medicine with a Department of Medical Technology, which offers a course in Medical Technology that, instead of using traditional methods, aims to utilize science to discover answers to health problems or issues.
