Today (24 July 2026), The Open University of Sri Lanka proudly celebrated another significant milestone with the official opening of the newly established, fully equipped Chemistry Laboratory at the Batticaloa Regional Centre.
The opening ceremony was graced by Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor P.M.C. Thilakarathne, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, the Senior Assistant Director, Academic and Non academic staff of the Batticaloa Regional Centre.
This modern laboratory represents the continued commitment of the university to expanding access to quality higher education across Sri Lanka. Students in the Eastern Province and surrounding regions can now complete their practical laboratory sessions at the Batticaloa Regional Centre, eliminating the need to travel to Colombo for many chemistry practical activities.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the continued commitment to strengthening the regional education network of the Open University of Sri Lanka, ensuring that learners across Sri Lanka have access to quality higher education and modern learning facilities closer to their communities.
