A Milestone Achievement: Department of Biosystems Technology Makes Maiden Appearance at Pro-Food Pro-Pack 2025
The Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, proudly marked a significant milestone with its highly successful inaugural participation at the Pro-Food Pro-Pack 2025 exhibition, held from 22-24 August 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
The exhibition served as a dynamic platform for the department to showcase the innovative spirit and research excellence of its students and faculty. The stall featured a diverse array of final-year research projects and product developments, highlighting the practical application of biosystems technology in solving contemporary challenges in the food and packaging industries.
Exhibits included pioneering work in areas such as:
• Development of novel food products from underutilized local agricultural resources.
• Research into sustainable and bioactive food packaging solutions.
• Applications of food safety and quality assurance technologies.
• Innovations in food processing and preservation techniques.
• A special thematic focus on pumpkin, featuring innovative pumpkin-based products, which attracted significant attention for their creativity and market potential.
The team, comprising academic staff and enthusiastic students, is receiving invaluable feedback and generating significant interest in their work. The participation provided an exceptional opportunity for students to present their ideas to a national audience, network with industry leaders, and gain insights into market trends and demands.
This maiden participation was not just about displaying our projects; it was a statement of our commitment to innovation and industry engagement. The overwhelming response we received, particularly for our theme on pumpkin, is a testament to the talent and potential of our students and the relevance of our academic programs. It strengthens our resolve to continue bridging the gap between academia and industry.
The department extends its gratitude to the university administration for its unwavering support and to the organizers of Pro-Food Pro-Pack 2025 for providing a national-stage platform to showcase technological innovation in Sri Lanka.
This successful debut has set a formidable precedent, and the department looks forward to building on this experience with even more impactful contributions in the years to come.
We thank the Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty, Heads of the Departments, students, staff members of the Faculty, academic support staff and non-academic staff members who unwavering support on this wonderful event.
