๐ŸŒฟ SEPTEMBER HIGHLIGHTS | CLIMB TO HEALTH INITIATIVE ๐ŸŒฟ

The Department of Natural Resources, Faculty of Applied Sciences, proudly highlights the launch of the โ€œClimb to Healthโ€ Initiative, organized by the Society of Natural Resources Studies (SNRS).

As part of this initiative, calorie-burning display stickers have been placed along the staircases within the Faculty premises to promote stair climbing as a simple, accessible, and effective form of physical activity. The initiative encourages the faculty community to turn routine movement between lectures and daily activities into opportunities for healthier living.

๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐‡.๐’.๐Œ. ๐’๐จ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐š of the Department of Physical Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, conducted a two-day G.C.E. Advanced Level Chemistry Teacher Training Programme on 15โ€“16 July 2026 at the Uva Provincial Science Resource Centre, Bandarawela, upon the invitation of the Uva Provincial Department of Education.

The programme was designed to enhance participants' theoretical understanding and practical laboratory competencies in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, equipping teachers with updated knowledge and hands-on experience to strengthen chemistry education at the Advanced Level.

Dr. Soysa was assisted by Ms. W.M. Piyumi Wathsala (Lecturer (Temporary)), Mr. G.G.P.M. Abeweera (Temporary Demonstrator), and Mr. S.P.S.N. Chandrapala (Temporary Demonstrator), all from the Department of Physical Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐Š.๐€.๐‡.๐Œ.๐‹. ๐‹๐š๐ค๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ข, a fourth-year undergraduate of the Department of Physical Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, presented her research at the ๐€๐ง๐ง๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ข๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ (๐€๐‘๐‚๐จ๐ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”) organized by the Faculty of Urban and Aquatic Bioresources, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Her abstract was published in the conference proceedings, and she was awarded the ๐Ÿ๐ง๐ ๐‘๐ฎ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ซ-๐”๐ฉ ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ for her presentation titled "Top-Down Synthesis of Lignin Nanoparticles from Coconut Coir Dust: Comparative Evaluation of Ultrasonic Bath and Probe Sonication." The research was conducted under the supervision of ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐‡. ๐’๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐ข ๐Œ. ๐’๐จ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐š (Department of Physical Sciences and Technology, SUSL) and ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐‡.๐–.๐Š.๐’.๐‹. ๐Š๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐š (Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, SLINTEC).
