🏆 Young Chess Talent Yeshan Perera to Represent Sri Lanka at Commonwealth Chess Championships 2026 ♟️

Gateway International College, Kandy proudly celebrates Grade 5 student Yeshan Perera, who has earned the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Commonwealth Chess Championships 2026 under the Under 12 category.

The championship will be held from 17th to 25th May 2026 at Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka, and is organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. The event will bring together nearly 150 international participants from 12 countries, including Australia, India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Maldives, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, Singapore, and South Africa.

🏸🌟 Gateway College Star Vishwanie Wanniarachchi Clinches Women’s Open Title!

Congratulations to Vishwanie Wanniarachchi (17) of Gateway College Colombo on winning the Women’s Open Singles Championship at the Premasiri Halabage Memorial Southern Open All Island Level 1 Badminton Championships 2026 — one of Sri Lanka’s premier national ranking tournaments. 🇱🇰🏆

Vishwanie secured a remarkable victory in the final against Praveena Wijesundara with a straight-games win of 21–9, 23–21, demonstrating exceptional skill, composure, and determination. 💪✨

This outstanding achievement has also earned her the honour of representing Sri Lanka at the Badminton Asia South Asia Regional Championship 2026, which was held in Islamabad, Pakistan in April.

At just 17 years old, Vishwanie is among the youngest athletes in recent years to capture a senior Women’s Open Singles title at an All-Island Level 1 Championship — a testament to her dedication and the strength of Gateway’s badminton programme in nurturing elite sporting talent.
