Toliau – ten, kur fotografija virsta kalba, o kalba – atsakomybe.

VAIZDŲ KOLEKCIONAVIMAS. TIPOLOGINIS METODAS

Vakar Kaunas Art Book Fair metu buvo pristatyti FOMAK programos dirbtuvių metu parengti leidiniai. Kolekcionavimo tema atvėrė duris archyvų ir naujos medžiagos tyrinėjimams, minties eksperimentams ir ritmo paieškoms. Intensyvaus penkių dienų darbo rezultatas – kūrybinės knygos, atskleidžiančios unikalias autorių pasirinktas tematikas.

Dirbtuves vedė Inga Drąsutė, ir Gintaras Česonis.

COLLECTING IMAGES: THE TYPOLOGICAL METHOD

Yesterday, at the Kaunas Art Book Fair, publications created during a FOMAK program workshop were presented. The theme of collecting opened the door to explorations of archives and new material, thought experiments, and the search for rhythm. The result of five days of intensive work is a series of creative books that reveal unique topics chosen by the authors.

The workshop was led by Inga Drąsutė, and Gintaras Česonis.

In her creative project “how to become space”, Severina Venckutė delves into the human capacity to experience the world through bodily presence. By questioning the physical environment, she seeks an answer within her own body – where does space begin and end within me? The works on display invite viewers to expand the boundaries of material experience. Panoramic photographs, translucent materials, and paper-based spatial objects become reflections on what it means to be a body in the contemporary world.

Andrėja Taranda presents the installation “Thorns” — a photographic exploration of a complex relationship with her brother. Using performative self-portraits, documentation of the Ai***ft subculture and family archives, the artist seeks to empathically understand her brother’s changed world. The project explores how human sensitivity functions within the context of militarized ideology.

🌿 Rytis Šafranauskas “Žemės ilgesy” ieško istorijos pėdsakų kaime, kuriame užaugo. Atradus tris apleistas sodybas pradėjo jose lankytis, stebėti aplinką, kraštovaizdį. Nors sodybose kadaise gyvenusių žmonių niekada nepažinojo – namų apleistume atrado nemažai praeities artefaktų, kurie leido įsivaizduoti praeities gyvenimą. Šių vietų reflektavimas padėjo kurti autentišką santykį su nykstančių sodybų vietomis. Šis procesas leido pajusti persipynusias skirtingas laiko perspektyvas bei tokiu būdu įžvelgti cikliškumo grožį.

Rytis Šafranauskas in “Longing for the Land” searches for traces of history in the village where he grew up. After discovering three abandoned farmsteads, he began visiting them, observing the surroundings and the landscape. Although he never knew the people who once lived in these farmsteads, he discovered numerous artifacts of the past in the abandoned homes. Reflecting on these places helped him establish an authentic connection with the sites of the disappearing farmsteads. This process allowed Rytis to sense the intertwining of different temporal perspectives and, in this way, to perceive the beauty of cyclicality.

In her project “What do I Grasp When I Touch the Dust”, Ieva Stankutė explores the microcosm of dust that formed in her grandmother’s home following a loss, where objects, dust and memories become a unified system. Here, dust functions as an archive of memory and a world suspended between security and decay, while the motif of pollen – dust – suggests that life and decay are parts of the same cycle.

📎 Today we started a 3-day workshop ‘Shaping Messy Material’ with Ruudu Ulas, who encourages students to dive into the unfinished, the fragmented, the overlooked. 🫆

Through hands-on exploration, the workshop opens up space to experiment, reshape, and reimagine – turning scattered archival traces of the everyday into meaningful forms.

Ruudu Ulas is a visual artist from Estonia, living and working in Berlin. Looking at the world through the lens of playful criticality she makes photos, objects and sometimes words to make sense of the everyday life. Inquisitively, she follows traces which the contemporary, urban dwelling, cyborg-like human accumulates, while being curious of the systems that have created such creatures. Working within the expanded field of photography her investigations often take the shape of large-scale room installations.
