Pirms svētkiem mēs nolēmām uz brīdi apstāties un atskatīties uz paveikto - kāds bija mūsu 2025. gads.

Ahead of the festive season, we decided to pause for a moment and look back at what we have achieved - this is what our 2025 looked like.

⚙️ In 2025, we supported 14 patients by creating personalised anatomical 3D models for surgical planning.

⚙️ Throughout the year, our printers were running for 6 000 hours - that’s the equivalent of 250 days without a break!
Our favourite technology was FFF/FDM, which we used in 80% of cases.

⚙️ In 2025, we trained 220 people, including healthcare professionals and students from Rīga Stradiņš University.

⚙️ During the summer and autumn, we provided internships for 6 students from the RTU Medical Engineering and Physics programme.

⚙️ In 2025, we also moved into a larger, newly renovated space, which now houses all of our 3D technology equipment.

Thank you for being with us throughout 2025.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share our achievements and experience with you.

We hope that 2026 will bring many new opportunities, precision and creative solutions in medicine.

3. decembris ir gan Starptautiskā 3D drukas diena, gan Starptautiskā cilvēku ar invaliditāti diena.

Strādājot ar 3D tehnoloģijām katru dienu, mēs redzam, cik daudz tās spēj dot medicīnai - anatomiskie modeļi operāciju plānošanai, mācību simulatori un dažādi medicīnas risinājumi, tostarp protēzes, ļauj radīt personalizētākus, precīzākus un ērtākus risinājumus pacientiem un speciālistiem.

Un mūsu uzdevums ir izplatīt zināšanas par 3D tehnoloģijām un palīdzēt tās ieviest medicīnas praksē.

3 December is both International 3D Printing Day and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Working with 3D technologies every day, we see how much they can contribute to medicine - anatomical models for surgical planning, training simulators, and various medical solutions, including prostheses, allow us to create more personalised, precise, and convenient solutions for patients and healthcare professionals.

Our mission is to share knowledge about 3D technologies and help integrate them into medical practice.

This week we joined the participants of SportHack2025 to support them in developing innovative ideas.

We spoke with the teams and explored how 3D technologies can enhance their projects and help create a more diverse and inclusive future for sports.

Saistībā ar 3D laboratorijas telpas remontu printeri pašlaik ir daļēji nepieejami, taču tas mūs neaptur!
Turpinām attīstīt digitālās prasmes, dalīties pieredzē un iedviesmot jaunos speciālistus.

12. novembrī vadījām ievadnodarbību par 3D tehnoloģiju izmantošanu uzņēmējdarbībā RSU Biznesa inkubators B-Space dalībniekiem - pārrunājām prototipēšanas iespējas un 3D drukas pielietojumu jaunuzņēmumos.

Due to ongoing renovations, our 3DLAB space is partially unavailable - but that doesn’t stop us! 💪
We continue growing digital skills, sharing knowledge and inspiring future professionals.

On November 12 we held an introductory presentation on the use of 3D technologies in business for participants of the RSU Biznesa inkubators B-Space, discussing prototyping opportunities and how startups can benefit from 3D printing.

Pagājušās nedēļas nogalē mūsu 3D laboratorija piedalījās konferencē 17th International Conference & Workshop “Medical Physics in the Baltic States 2025”, ko uzņēma Kauņas Tehnoloģiju universitāte (KTU Kauno technologijos universitetas/Kaunas University of Technology).

Konferences ietvaros mēs prezentējām referātu par datortomogrāfijas protokolu optimizāciju, lai uzlabotu galvaskausa 3D rekonstrukcijas precizitāti ķirurģiskās plānošanas vajadzībām.
Mūsu rezultāti parādīja, ka, izmantojot jaunos protokolus, iespējams samazināt starojuma devu vairāk nekā par 50%, nezaudējot 3D modeļa ģeometrisko precizitāti.

Tāpat konferences ietvaros mēs vadījām praktisku nodarbību par medicīnisko attēlu segmentēšanu ķirurģiskai plānošanai, demonstrējot, kā medicīnas fiziķi var izmantot mūsdienīgas digitālās tehnoloģijas savā profesionālajā praksē.

At the end of last week, our 3D Laboratory participated in the 17th International Conference & Workshop “Medical Physics in the Baltic States 2025”, hosted by KTU Kauno technologijos universitetas/Kaunas University of Technology.

During the conference, we presented an abstract focused on optimizing CT scanning protocols to improve the accuracy of cranial 3D reconstruction for surgical planning.
Our results demonstrated that it is possible to reduce radiation dose by more than 50% with the new protocols without compromising the geometric accuracy of the 3D model.

Additionally, we conducted a hands-on workshop on medical image segmentation for surgical planning, showcasing how medical physicists can integrate modern digital technologies into their professional practice.

We thank the organizers for the opportunity to share our experience!
