🌍From 4 to 6 August, RTU Liepāja hosted participants of the international summer school «BUP Science and Sail 2026». The summer school took place in Klaipeda and Liepaja, bringing together 35 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students from 27 universities across 10 countries.

⛵️During the event, students explored the coastal environment of the Baltic Sea and its development challenges, conducted practical research, and worked in international teams. As part of the programme, participants also embarked on a research voyage aboard Klaipeda University’s sailing vessel «Brabander», which docked in the Port of Liepaja for two days.

🌊The Liepaja segment of the programme offered students the opportunity to learn about Latvia’s Baltic Sea coastline, its ecosystems, environmental challenges, and sustainable development opportunities. The programme combined practical sessions, lectures, expert discussions, and group work. Students visited a groyne—a 225-metre-long coastal protection structure in Liepaja at the Skede dunes—as well as Zirgu Island and its «Nature House», and visited Liepaja Municipality's Environment, Health and Public Participation Department as well as the city beach.

Day 5 ▶️focused on community engagement and turning ideas into meaningful action. The morning began with the workshop ““Liepāja 2027” and Community Engagement”, led by Justine Rusakova. The session explored the importance of involving local communities and encouraging people to actively participate in cultural and social initiatives.

After a short break, we continued with the Community Engagement Idea Lab: Designing Initiatives for Real Impact. During this working session, participants had the opportunity to develop 4 selected ideas, exchange perspectives, and think about practical initiatives that could create a positive and lasting impact in the community and at their universities.💡

🎈The day concluded with certificates and cake, providing a warm ending to the programme. It was a great opportunity to reflect on what we had learned throughout the five days, appreciate the connections we had made, and celebrate the experience together.

💡 And in the afternoon - time to turn inspiration into action - Community Engagement Idea Lab: Designing Initiatives for Real Impact.

Working together across universities and countries, developing ideas that can be brought back home and turned into real community engagement initiatives. From sharing experiences to creating something new together! 🌍🤝💡

⛵ And in the evening - a boat tour on the Baltic Sea! A perfect way to finish an intensive day: enjoying the sea, continuing conversations and spending time together. 🌊🌅

Today, together with 23 colleagues from across Europe, we took part in the online meeting for the BIP "Universities and Community Engagement". During the session, we explored the theory behind community engagement and learned from the participants' experiences in this field.

Next week, academic and administrative staff from a wide range of disciplines will come together at RTU Liepāja to continue learning, collaborating, and working on their own community engagement projects. We are looking forward to an inspiring week of sharing ideas and building new connections!

It was great experience to host students from all the Europe and teach them how to make 3D games from scratch. We love bringing happiness to the hearts of students all over the world.
