Baltic-German University Liaison Office There is close cooperation with the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania University Information Office as well as the DAAD Information Centre in Riga.

✨Our aim is to foster scientific collaboration between Germany and the Baltic States.
✨We support collaborative projects in various scientific fields.
✨We organize scientific evenings and seminars.
🙌Science unites!🙌 The Baltic-German University Liaison Office permanently invites people and institutions from the Baltic States and Germany, to become active by carrying out a project, a lecture, or other cooperation proposals and thus contributing to the goal of deepening scientific ties between countries. The Baltic-German University Liaison Office also offers a variety of books and learning materials for German language which are accessible in the office rooms at Riga Technical University.

🔥 Project Competition 2027: Applications are open!

The Baltic-German University Liaison Office invites you to submit project proposals that strengthen scientific cooperation between Germany and the Baltic States. Innovative, application-oriented research projects may receive funding of up to €10,000.

📅 Deadline: 15 October 2026
For projects implemented between 1 February and 31 October 2027.

To ensure that your project proposal is considered, please submit all required documents via our "EasyChair" application portal by the application deadline.

Complete applications must be submitted by 23:59 (Baltic States time zone) on the final day of the call. Please note that incomplete applications cannot be considered and will be excluded from the selection process.

The 1st round of our 2027 Project Competition closes on 15 October 2026, 23:59 (Baltic time), so there is still time to apply!

We support projects that bring Baltic and German universities and research institutions closer together, from student and lecturer exchanges and summer schools to joint research and first steps towards new partnerships.

💶 Up to 5000 EUR per project (up to 10 000 EUR for large-scale projects in justified cases)
📅 Projects run between 1 February and 31 October 2027
🤝 Applicant: an employee of a university or research institution in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania, together with a partner from Germany

📍Pupillometry is a non-invasive and cost-effective method for indexing autonomic and cognitive load-related processes. Researchers from Vilnius University, the University of Tartu, and Ruhr University Bochum will present their findings on stress, emotion regulation, and the autonomic nervous system, and share their expertise in pupillometry and data analysis in psychophysiological research.
📍The workshop is open to researchers, students, early-career researchers, and everyone interested in psychophysiology, neuroscience, emotion research, and stress. It's not too late to join us! 👀

Are you a graduate, PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher or member of research staff? Join our information session to learn about research stays, structured PhD programmes and funding opportunities for research projects with German partners.

Representatives of the DAAD, OeAD and the Baltic-German University Liaison Office will present funding opportunities for research stays in Germany and Austria, as well as project funding for academic cooperation with German partners. Funding options for artists, architects and green hydrogen technologies will also be introduced.

🎤 Presentation: ‘Beyond the Buzzword: Burnout Research at Vilnius University’
As part of our Scientific Evening, ‘Stress Across Mind and Body: Memory, Burnout and Hormonal Responses”. We are pleased to welcome Dr Žiedelis, who will be delivering a presentation on employee burnout.

👨‍🏫Assoc. Prof. Žiedelis is an organisational and health psychologist whose research focuses on employee well-being, work-related stress, and burnout. He has led and contributed to numerous research projects investigating the prevalence and causes of burnout, the effects of remote and hybrid working, work–life balance, and the professional well-being of nurses and other occupational groups. His work combines empirical studies with a critical examination of how burnout is understood and discussed in everyday and business contexts.

💬In his presentation, he will:
- Introduce the concept of employee burnout and clarify what it actually means beyond popular usage
- Review key findings from research conducted by organizational psychologists at Vilnius University on the prevalence and etiology of burnout
- Challenge two widespread misconceptions: that burnout is a nearly universal condition (“we are all burned out”) and that it is primarily caused by individual shortcomings (“we burn ourselves out”)
- Discuss the role of workplace conditions and organizational factors in the development of burnout

This talk offers an evidence-based perspective on burnout as a work-related phenomenon rather than a purely personal failing, and highlights what current research can tell us about prevention and healthier working environments.

🧠 Presentation: ‘Why Do We Experience Stress Differently? The Role of the Brain and Hormones” by Prof. Dr. Ramunė Grikšienė
As part of our Scientific Evening, "Stress Across Mind and Body: Memory, Burnout and Hormonal Responses”, we are pleased to welcome Prof. Grikšienė, Head of the Hormones and Brain Function Research Group at the Institute of Biosciences, Life Sciences Centre, Vilnius University, Lithuania.

🔬Prof. Grikšienė is Head of the Hormones and Brain Function Research Group. Her research focuses on psychophysiology and psychoneuroendocrinology, investigating how stress and s*x hormones influence cognition, emotions, social behaviour, and responses to stressful situations. She examines the biological mechanisms underlying emotional and cognitive functioning across different hormonal states using methods such as electroencephalography (EEG), eye-tracking and hormone assessment.

💬In her presentation, 'Why Do We Experience Stress Differently? The Role of the Brain and Hormones”, she will:
- Introduce the role of stress and s*x hormones in shaping emotional, cognitive, and behavioural responses to stressful situations
- Explore why people can perceive and respond to the same stressful experience in very different ways.
- Provide a neurobiological perspective on how hormonal factors contribute to stress perception, emotion regulation, and adaptation.
- Share insights from research on stress perception in men, as well as on premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and brain health in menopausal women.
Her presentation offers a research-based perspective on the biological and psychological factors that influence individual stress responses and well-being throughout the life cycle.
