Ventspils University College (VUC), founded in 1997, is a self-governing state university college and scientific institution, which both conducts scientific research, and implements academic and professional study programmes. Latvia, famous for its dedication to higher education, has one of the world's highest ratios of students to population. VUC benefits from this national dedication to learning and educational.

VUC has three faculties (departments): Economics and Management, Translation Studies, and Information Technologies. Theseoffer 13 Bachelor, Master and PhD study programmes. It currently has about 900 full-time students (including international students), 80% of whom receive state support. VUC has 129 employees, 67 in academic positions. All are committed to bridging academic and professional capacities to benefit Latvia and Europe.
The VUC mission is to develop and maintain high-quality education and research, and encourage productive interaction of them in its academic fields - management, applied linguistics, computer science, information technology, engineering and radio astronomy.
Like other quality universities, VUC offers free sport, intellectual, and cultural activities.

A wonderful city beside the sea. It respects the past, looks eagerly toward the future and bustles with activity today. Ventspils city and Parventa have been home to a major European port and bustling citizens for thousands of years.

Despite recent global economic problems, the city is ambitious and effective - constantly creating new solutions and learning from the world to keep improving. For example, it works to attract innovative organizations like ReachAcademic. Its sports and fitness clubs, beautiful new libraries and cultural, medical and educational institutions make it a fine place to live. Ventspils citizens are famous for recognizing needed changes and new opportunities, then working to make them a reality.

Tourists to Ventspils enjoy its varied landscape, a beautiful beach, lovely old architecture and fresh air. Its special features are family-friendly: an old Livonian Castle and museum, a skate Park, two waterparks, manicured green parks, and much more.

As a smaller city approximately 43 thousand citizens, everything is nearby, whether by car, in public transportation, on foot, or cycling along 43 kilometers of new bike paths. To help visitors feel at home, the city's world-class set of roadsigns make its attractions easy to find.
