🕊️ In Loving Memory of Panghuk Duwa Lahpai Hkun Sa
(8 January 1953 – 14 May 2026)

With profound sorrow, we mourn the passing of Panghuk Duwa Lahpai Hkun Sa, a respected leader, visionary entrepreneur, philanthropist, and beloved founding donor and trustee of Kachinland College.

Throughout his life, he dedicated himself not only to the prosperity of his people but also to the education and empowerment of future generations. He firmly believed that education was the key to the advancement of the Kachin people and generously supported youth development, learning opportunities, and institutions of higher education.

As a founding supporter of Kachinland College, his unwavering commitment, wisdom, and generosity helped lay the foundation for nurturing young leaders through inclusive and transformative education. His vision and contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.

He peacefully rested in the loving hands of our Lord Jesus Christ on 14 May 2026.

Though he has departed from this world, his legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to education will forever remain in our hearts.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️

To lead is to serve, a responsibility carried through action.

From 25 March to 2 May 2026, a group of students from KC Junior College took part in CAS (Creativity, Action, Service), travelling to N-gum La Muklum where they served as volunteer teachers for 109 students.

In classrooms shaped by simplicity yet filled with curiosity, they taught English, flute, and handcraft skills such as crochet. Each lesson became more than instruction, it was an exchange of attention, encouragement, and shared growth.

For our students, this experience was not only about teaching, but about understanding responsibility in action. One student reflected: “We feel a strong responsibility to support access to quality education within our community. Education shapes not only individual lives, but also the future of our people. When we invest in learning and share knowledge with others, we contribute to the growth and development of everyone around us.”

Beyond the classroom, they began to understand the place more deeply, its geography, daily rhythms, and the lived realities of the community. These experiences, gained through presence and interaction, revealed perspectives that cannot be captured from afar.

Through this journey, they learned that service begins with responsibility, and responsibility begins with awareness. 💛

🎬 Student Journey Series | Episode 2: My First Week
Experience the first days at Kachinland College through Nang Zi Mai’s eyes!

"My first week at Kachinland College was a mix of excitement and a little uncertainty. While English is the medium of instruction, most students speak Jinghpaw outside of class, while I speak Rawang. As an introverted person, this made me feel a bit out of place at first. However, as the days passed, I began to notice the kindness and warmth of the community here. Both the teachers and my classmates made genuine efforts to communicate and make me feel included, despite our different dialects. Their patience and friendliness helped me feel more at ease and gradually built my confidence. I soon realized that Kachinland College is not just a place to study, but a truly supportive and welcoming community where everyone is encouraged to grow and feel at home."

First weeks can be scary — but here, you’re never alone.

Thank You, Bisa Duwa Mungdang Gam

On behalf of the Kachinland College team, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Bisa Duwa Mungdang Gam for his warm hospitality and gracious meeting with our faculty members and students. We are deeply impressed by his magnanimity and cordiality.

We are also sincerely grateful for the generous book gifts, which will be valuable additions to the Kachinland College library.

The Bisa Duwa (Bisa Raja) lineage carries remarkable historical significance. In the early 19th century, an earlier Bisa Duwa of this lineage introduced Phalap (tea) to the British East India Company. The Bisa domain historically covered the Singpho areas in present-day Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, India. The historic Stilwell Road (Ledo Road) also begins from Ledo Town, which falls under the traditional jurisdiction of the Bisa Duwa.

It was a great honour and privilege for us to meet Bisa Duwa Mungdang Gam, a respected custodian of this proud heritage.

A journey of culture, unity, and pride: Kachinland College Students at Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi 2026

Kachinland College students traveled to India to participate in the Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi 2026. This video captures our journey, preparations, and unforgettable moments as we proudly took part in one of the most important cultural celebrations of the Singpho and Kachin people in India.

From campus preparations to our participation at the Manau ground, this trip was filled with learning, cultural pride, and shared experiences.

We are honored to be part of the Shapawng Yawng Manau celebration and grateful for the opportunity to witness and participate in this meaningful event.

Special Thanks to: Singpho Development Society; 42nd Shapawng Yawng Manau Festival Celebration Committee; Slg. Hprup Awng & Pinna Kitnal Muklom; Slg. Kanmai Prahlad & Sengzah Kanmai; Slg. Nhkum Gam Seng

For the past four days, our students have been immersed in the heart of the Shapawng Yawng Manau—listening, learning, singing, and carrying forward a legacy that stretches back to our earliest ancestors.

We may not have shared every moment in real time, but each day has shaped them in unforgettable ways. From the first drumbeat to the final dance, they have walked with purpose, humility, and pride.

They stood with youth in the sacred AWWANG, their voices blending into a harmony that transcended borders and generations.Through this, they became more than participants—they became carriers of a living .

We celebrate what these four days have shaped: youth who now understand their cultural roots more deeply, who have felt the power of community, and who will return home carrying these echoes within them.

The festival may close for this year, but what they have learned will continue to shape who they become. It is only the beginning of what they will carry home: in their voices, in their memories,
and in the future they will help build for our community.

The drumbeats fade.
The legacy remains.

When was the last time you spoke your mother tongue with pride?

Today's talk session on Linguistics: Jinghpaw Ga Hte Ga Hpaji by Sara Keita Kurabe encouraged us to reflect on the growing reality of disappearing languages around the world. Through meaningful examples of indigenous languages and mother tongues at risk of extinction, the session highlighted that language is far more than a means of communication - it is a reflection of culture, identity, and history. The discussion strongly emphasized the role of the younger generation in preserving these languages by actively speaking, sharing, and passing them on.

After the session, many students expressed how impactful the talk was and how it inspired them to value and proudly use their languages to keep their roots and heritage alive.

Let us be the generation that keeps our culture alive through every word we speak.

Awwang: Living Heritage

As part of cultural studies, KC Junior College students examine AWWANG as a significant element of Kachin intangible cultural heritage.

The lesson emphasizes the role of traditional music in transmitting historical knowledge and sustaining community traditions.

AWWANG reminds us that cultural heritage is not only preserved - it is practiced, shared, and renewed.
