The MA in Maritime Archaeology is intended to expose students to a broad range of facets that fall within this discipline. Students will be able to start and develop their careers in the field of archaeology with special emphasis on the maritime and underwater sub-disciplines of the subject. Furthermore, students may use the skill garnered from this robust course to pursue careers that are not rel

ated to archaeology. Skills-sets acquired throughout the one year duration of this programme are multi-dimensional, flexible and most importantly, desirable to stakeholders and employers. The Master's programme in Global Marine Archaeology is an accelerated, 12-month programme commencing in October 2016. It’s being offered by the University of Malta in collaboration with the Western Australian Museum.

At the University of Malta Research Expo, Mr Sergio Kesrouwani and Dr Judith Gatt presented ongoing research being developed within the MA programme in Global Maritime Archaeology at the Department of Classics and Archaeology.

Mr Kesrouwani shared insights from the ongoing AUV surveys, while Dr Judith Gatt presented the work and discoveries emerging from the Salina Bay Field School.

A great opportunity to showcase the innovative research and fieldwork being carried out within the programme.

Last week at LRCW 8 in Ravenna, Enrico Cirelli, Nathaniel Cutajar, and our alumna Mieke Kassulke presented some of the preliminary results from the pottery study of the Salina Bay Project.

It’s great to see this work contributing to wider discussions on Late Roman ceramics, and we’re looking forward to developing these results further in the coming months!

Our students, under the guidance of Mr Sergio Kesrouwani, revisited the Dockyard Creek collection. 📦

They carefully updated the inventory, reorganised the finds, and placed everything into new bags with fresh labels.

It was a fantastic experience to rediscover these fascinating pieces and appreciate their value all over again. 🔍✨

A big thank you to the Maritime Museum and Heritage Malta’s Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit for their invaluable support. 🙏
