🌍 Empowering Change through SDGs 🌍

The members of the UNIVERSITÉ DES MASCAREIGNES Alumni Club had the privilege of attending the training session on the Introduction to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) organised by anAngel . This insightful presentation gave us a deeper understanding of the 17 global goals, established by the United Nations, which are geared toward addressing the world's most pressing challenges by 2030.

Key Takeaways:
Holistic Approach: The SDGs tackle poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and peace and justice, ensuring no one is left behind.
Impact Across Sectors: From Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) to Climate Action (SDG 13), each goal requires multi-stakeholder efforts, including governments, NGOs, businesses, and individuals.
Business and Sustainability: Companies that align with the SDGs not only contribute to global development but also enhance long-term profitability and brand reputation.
NGOs and Community Impact: We learned about innovative community-driven initiatives, such as reforestation projects contributing to Life on Land (SDG 15).

Personal Reflection:
This training emphasized that every action counts. Whether through responsible consumption (SDG 12) or supporting local initiatives, we can all contribute to sustainable development.

A heartfelt thank you to the organizers for this opportunity. The session has empowered us to become more conscious change-makers. Together, we can build a better, more sustainable future.

Durgesh Teeluckdharry, RPEM ,President of the Alumni Club, had the honor of opening the highly anticipated Research Week at Université des Mascareignes. This event is more than just an academic showcase—it’s a dynamic platform where the worlds of academia and industry converge to ignite innovation and address real-world challenges.

In his speech, Durgesh emphasized the vital collaboration between industry and academia. Industry-driven research plays a key role in guiding innovation, offering practical resources, and helping transform theoretical ideas into tangible solutions. From sustainable engineering to emerging technologies, these partnerships are paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.

The Research Week 2024 is a chance for students, researchers, and industry professionals to unite, share knowledge, and explore cutting-edge solutions for tomorrow’s challenges. 🌍 Transforming Our Nation Together: A Glimpse into the Future of Waste Management 🏗️
As Mauritius embarks on a critical journey toward sustainable development, the Alumni Club Université des Mascareignes is proud to acknowledge the pivotal role played by our President, Durgesh Teeluckdharry, RPEM, in this national transformation. Recently, a key workshop on implementing the national waste management strategy was launched at the Caudan Arts Centre, Port-Louis, setting the stage for projects that will significantly impact our environment.
Durgesh, alongside experts such as Andrew Bland, CEO of Lark Engineering, and other seasoned civil engineers, is at the forefront of this transformation. Their leadership and expertise are vital in the successful ex*****on of projects like the installation of a new waste treatment plant, the vertical expansion of the Mare Chicose landfill, and the management of hazardous waste.
We are immensely proud to see our Alumni Club President contributing to these groundbreaking efforts, demonstrating the excellence and commitment that define our alumni community. Together, we celebrate the strides being made towards a greener, cleaner Mauritius.
