🌎 What happens when educators learn across borders? New perspectives, lasting connections, and learning that continues long after the trip ends.
⠀
This summer, 10 Indiana educators traveled to the Galápagos Islands as part of a new environmental education initiative led by Indiana University. Working alongside educators and faculty from Ecuador, they explored biodiversity, conservation, hands-on learning, and new approaches to environmental education.
⠀
But the experience didn’t end with the journey home. 🇺🇸🇪🇨 The educators will continue collaborating on projects focused on topics such as water quality, waste management, and seismic activity, while also creating new connections between their students.

The IU Mexico Gateway was pleased to participate in the APLU Council of International Initiatives Summer Meeting in Mexico City, where our Director, Molly Fisher, joined Mónica Ramos Vega (Oklahoma State University), Paola Garcia Hidalgo (Arizona State University), and Meghna R. University of Saskatchewan) for a conversation about strengthening partnerships with Mexico and across North America.

The discussion reflected what we see every day at the Gateway: the best collaborations grow from strong relationships, listening, and connecting the right people and ideas.

In Belo Horizonte, we loved meeting students and educators interested in international experiences and spending time with IU alumni. Hearing their stories, what they remember most about IU, and where life has taken them since was such a special part of the visit. 💙

We recently learned more about Indiana University’s connections to Salvador and had the opportunity to add a stop here. We came to listen and learn — and wow, there is already so much meaningful work, energy, and connection happening here. 🇧🇷💙
⠀
IU faculty and students have connections in Bahia spanning research, Global Classroom collaborations, faculty relationships, and more. We wanted to understand that activity better, hear directly from our partners, and explore how IU can support and expand what is already happening.
⠀
Over several days, we visited local high schools, met students interested in studying in the U.S., connected with educators, faculty, alumni, and partners, and spent time at UFBA learning about existing IU connections and possibilities for more. Our conversations ranged from undergraduate and graduate opportunities at IU to research collaboration, faculty and student mobility, and new ways to connect Indiana and Bahia.

There is so much potential here — and so much we can learn from the people and institutions already doing this work.

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their ideas, introduced us to their students and colleagues, and helped us think about what could come next. We’re excited to keep building together. 💙🌎

Building global connections starts at home. ❤️🌎

Although we represent Indiana University around the world, many of us in the IU Global Gateway Network had never visited our home campuses at IU Bloomington and IU Indianapolis. Coming together there for the first time was both inspiring and motivating, reminding us that meaningful global engagement begins with strong relationships across our own university.

We're grateful to everyone who made the retreat such a meaningful experience, especially our colleagues at the Office of International Services (OIS), Office of International Affairs (OIA), IU Global, and the Indiana University Alumni Association (IUAA) for their warm hospitality and leadership.

Thank you to the faculty, staff, and partners across Indiana University who welcomed us, shared their expertise, and reinforced the value of collaboration across our university. We returned inspired by the conversations, connections, and opportunities ahead.

By spending time on our campuses, connecting with colleagues across disciplines, and exchanging ideas with partners from around the world, we strengthen our ability to create impactful opportunities for students, faculty, and institutions in Mexico and beyond.

We've had the opportunity to connect with colleagues across many schools and units throughout Indiana University. Experiencing the people, campuses, and partnerships that make IU so unique has brought to life the mission we proudly support every day from Mexico.

One of the highlights has been participating in Best of Indiana, where educators, counselors, and school leaders from Brazil, Cameroon, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, and beyond came together to share ideas, build partnerships, and advance international education.

Next stop: Indianapolis! We look forward to continuing to strengthen relationships, create new opportunities, and share the impact of Indiana University's global engagement around the world. ✨🌎

✨🚀 TBT when we had the opportunity to attend a keynote lecture given by NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore at the Universum, Museo de las Ciencias Theater.
⠀
During this event, he shared his life story, the challenges he faced before becoming an astronaut, the experiences he had during his space missions, and the lessons he has learned throughout his professional and personal journey. His testimony reminded us of the importance of perseverance, discipline, and passion in achieving our goals, even when they seem as far away as the stars 🌎🌟.

We are grateful for the opportunity to hear firsthand about an experience that inspires new generations to dream big, explore new horizons, and believe in the power of knowledge to transform lives.

La emoción por la Copa Mundial continúa, y nos llena de orgullo haber representado a Indiana University en el Pabellón de la Embajada Estados Unidos en México de la Aldea Global 2026, un espacio que reunió culturas, ideas y personas de todo el mundo en el corazón de la Ciudad de México.

Durante este gran encuentro, compartimos oportunidades académicas y experiencias internacionales a través de nuestra School of Public Health-Bloomington, destacando cómo la salud pública, la hospitalidad y la gestión de eventos generan un impacto positivo en las comunidades a nivel global.
