ALOR SETAR, 1 September 2026 – Albukhary International University (AIU) organised a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Workshop titled “Ethnomathematics: Integrated Mathematics in Islamic Religious Education” at the AIU Auditorium, bringing together Bachelor of Education students and academic staff.

The programme was organised through a collaboration between the Centre of Reference (Library), School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS), and Centre for Development of Academic Excellence (CDAE).

The session was delivered by Dr. Khairul Umam, Lecturer in Mathematics Education at Universitas Syiah Kuala, Indonesia. He introduced participants to ethnomathematics and explored how mathematical concepts can be connected with culture, religion, and everyday experiences to make learning more meaningful.

Practical examples included fractions in faraid and zakat calculations, geometry and volume in taharah, and social arithmetic in muamalah. These examples provided future educators with practical ideas for connecting classroom learning to real-life and religious contexts.

Participants actively engaged during the Q&A session, while Dr. Khairul also presented copies of his books to participating students. His works are also available at the AIU Library for further reference.

The workshop offered a fresh perspective on mathematics education while highlighting how culture, values, and lived experiences can enrich the learning process.

𝐀𝐈𝐔 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐔𝐊𝐌𝐀 𝐗𝐗𝐈𝐈 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

ALOR SETAR, 1 September 2026 – While athletes competed at SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026, AIU lecturer Dr Fan served as part of the Penang State Contingent Medical Team from 10 to 25 August 2026.

Appointed as a sports masseur by the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP), Dr Fan supported Penang athletes through sports massage, therapeutic ultrasound, and TENS therapy to assist recovery and physical wellbeing.

Working under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Unit, Dr Fan was part of a multidisciplinary team comprising sports scientists, medical doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, nutritionists, and psychologists supporting athletes throughout the games.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr Fan highlighted the connection between sport, health, education, and youth development:

“Sport and health are not separate from social and national development. Healthy, resilient and well-supported young athletes can grow into future leaders, professionals and contributors to society.”

The engagement also opened early discussions on a potential MoU between AIU and MSNPP, with possible collaboration in sports psychology, athlete wellbeing, research, professional training, and student experiential learning. It may also create pathways for Penang athletes to explore higher education opportunities at AIU as they plan for life beyond competitive sport.

The experience reflects AIU’s commitment to bringing academic knowledge into professional practice while contributing to youth development and national-level engagement.

ALOR SETAR, 1 September 2026 – The School of Education and Human Sciences (SEHS), Albukhary International University (AIU), hosted the Exclusive Sharing Session – The Next Stage of Thalatha Tis’a on 24 August 2026, bringing together university leaders, Islamic scholars, staff, and students for an afternoon of learning and reflection.

The programme was officiated by Prof. Dr. Haji Abdullah Hemdi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), who highlighted the importance of knowledge, values, and continuous learning in shaping individuals and communities.

The session also featured Tan Sri Idris Jusoh, Founder of Thalatha Tis’a in Malaysia, alongside Ustadz Dr. Ahmad Jalaluddin (Dr. Djalal) and Ustadzah Maya Novita, founders of Yayasan Ihyaul Qur’an Indonesia and Islamic educators from Malang, East Java.

The speakers shared insights on Qur’anic education, character development, Islamic parenting, and the role of families and educators in nurturing children’s spiritual and personal growth.

The session provided the AIU community with an opportunity to engage with experienced scholars and practitioners while reflecting on the importance of faith, education, and family in daily life.

The programme reflects AIU’s commitment to lifelong learning, Islamic values, and holistic human development.

Bagi sesetengah orang, 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐤𝐚 mungkin sekadar sebuah laungan.

Tetapi di 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐮𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐀𝐈𝐔), Merdeka membawa makna yang lebih jauh.

Ia adalah tentang 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢 agar setiap insan berani bermimpi tanpa dibatasi keadaan.

Dan apabila suara “𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐤𝐚! 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐤𝐚! 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐤𝐚!” bergema di kampus AIU, ia turut membawa harapan daripada anak-anak muda yang datang dari pelbagai negara, budaya dan latar belakang.

Berbeza tanah kelahiran,
berbeza bahasa dan budaya,
tetapi berkongsi satu Impian,
untuk belajar, berkembang dan memberi kembali kepada dunia.

Kerana bagi AIU, kemerdekaan bukan sekadar bebas daripada sesuatu.
Merdeka adalah kebebasan untuk menjadi insan yang lebih baik,
kebebasan untuk membina masa depan,
dan kebebasan untuk menggunakan ilmu bagi berbakti kepada manusia.

69 tahun bukan sekadar angka. Ia adalah perjalanan yang dibina oleh generasi demi generasi, dengan segala cabaran, perubahan dan pencapaian yang kita lalui bersama.

Hari ini, kita raikan Malaysia dengan menghargai apa yang telah kita bina dan memikirkan apa yang masih boleh kita lakukan untuk masa hadapan.
