The 6th Asian Legal History Conference (ALHC 2026) was successfully held on 6–7 August 2026 at Multimedia University (MMU) Melaka, hosted by the Faculty of Law, MMU, with the support of Cnergy MMU, the Asian Legal History Association (ALHA) and University of Reading Malaysia (UORM). The conference brought together scholars, researchers, postgraduate students, and legal academics from various countries to exchange knowledge and research on the historical development of law in Asia.
The main objective of ALHC 2026 was to provide an international and interdisciplinary platform for participants to present and discuss research relating to Asian legal history, including the evolution of legal traditions, colonial legal legacies, international and transnational law, legal pluralism, customary and religious law, and the historical development of legal education and the legal profession. The conference also aimed to strengthen academic networking, encourage research collaboration, and facilitate meaningful scholarly exchange across jurisdictions.
In conclusion, ALHC 2026 successfully achieved its objectives by fostering meaningful intellectual exchange, strengthening international academic networks, and providing opportunities for researchers to share diverse perspectives on Asian legal history. Beyond the academic presentations and discussions, the conference also offered participants an opportunity to experience the rich cultural and heritage environment of historic Melaka. Overall, the conference also enhanced MMU's visibility as a platform for international scholarly engagement and contributed to the continued development of research and collaboration in the field of legal history.
