🌏 IPI at ASEAN GEOAI FUSION 2026

The Institute of Climate Change (IPI), UKM, was proud to be part of the team of trainers and mentors for the ASEAN GEOAI FUSION 2026 Bootcamp, held on 7–9 July 2026 (Bootcamp 1) and 21–23 July 2026 (Bootcamp 2).

Organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with UNITEN, UKM, and the UM-Wales, the programme brought together more than 1,000 participants from across ASEAN to strengthen their expertise in Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) and develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Representing IPI, the Head of the Earth Observation Centre (EOC), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Gs. Dr. Wan Shafrina Wan Mohd Jaafar, served as a trainer and mentor throughout the programme. She was supported by Mr. Ammar, Research Officer at the EOC, and Dr. Nurul Asyiqin, an IPI student, in guiding participants throughout the bootcamp series.

Selected teams from ASEAN countries will advance to the ASEAN GEOAI FUSION 2026 Hackathon Grand Finale, scheduled to take place in August 2026.

IPI hopes that its continued involvement in initiatives such as this will further strengthen the role of both IPI and UKM in advancing GeoAI expertise while fostering regional collaboration in research, innovation, and capacity building.
