🎉 Congratulations to Ts. Br. Ng Teck Wei on achieving CIOB Fellowship!

The Faculty of Built Environment (FOBE), TAR UMT, is pleased to congratulate Ts. Br. Ng Teck Wei on achieving Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) and being recognised at the CIOB Graduation Ceremony in London on 11 September 2026.

FCIOB is an important professional milestone, recognising his experience, leadership and contribution to the built environment profession.

This September, the Faculty of Built Environment introduces Assoc. Prof. Sr Ts. Dr Cheng Chin Tiong as our Researcher of the Month. Dr Cheng is Associate Dean for Quality Assurance and Head of the Centre for Real Estate Research (CRER).

Dr Cheng studies how real estate markets actually work: what drives property values, how infrastructure and neighbourhood conditions shape investment decisions, and how urban development can be planned more sustainably. His approach is data-driven, combining GIS, spatial analysis, econometrics and hedonic modelling to look at questions like infrastructure financing, land value creation and how property prices should be measured in the first place.

The research doesn't stop at publication. Dr Cheng works to turn his findings into practical tools that government agencies, professional bodies and industry can use for property valuation, urban planning and policy decisions.

In 2024, his paper placed 2nd for Best Paper at the International Real Estate Research Symposium (IRERS). He also reviews for the Journal of Land Use Science and the Asian Journal of Economics and Banking, and leads or contributes to several externally funded research projects in real estate and urban development.

The Faculty of Built Environment (FOBE) was proud to represent Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) as one of the co-organisers of the 11th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Materials Science (ICCEMS 2026), held at TAR UMT from 15 to 17 July 2026.

FOBE was also well represented at the conference, with seven papers presented by five lecturers and two PhD students. The papers covered a range of topics related to the built environment, construction management, materials, and digital construction.

The conference provided a valuable platform for our academics and postgraduate students to share their research, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration with researchers from Malaysia and abroad.

Congratulations to all presenters, and sincere appreciation to the organising committee, speakers, reviewers, participants, student helpers, and everyone who contributed to the success of ICCEMS 2026.

On 1 July 2026, the Faculty of Built Environment, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) formalised a collaboration with Turner & Townsend Quantity Surveying Consultant Sdn. Bhd., part of the globally renowned Turner & Townsend, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This MoU marks a significant step in strengthening industry–academia collaboration, with a focus on talent development, knowledge exchange, professional engagement, and future opportunities for students and staff.

Following the signing ceremony, the delegation visited TAR UMT ARENA to gain an overview of the University’s modern green facilities, as well as the learning and community spaces that support students, staff, and the wider community.

The Faculty of Built Environment looks forward to a meaningful partnership with Turner & Townsend and the positive opportunities this collaboration will bring.

The first FOBE Postgraduate Colloquium, held on 18 April 2026, marked a meaningful milestone for the Faculty of Built Environment.

Although the number of participating students was not large, the colloquium was a fruitful and encouraging start. Conducted in a hybrid format, the event enabled students from the MBE Master’s programme and TBE PhD programme to present their research both physically and online.

The colloquium served as a valuable platform for students, supervisors, academic staff, and postgraduate candidates to exchange ideas, share research progress, and engage in constructive academic discussion. It also helped strengthen peer support, academic collaboration, and research culture within the faculty.

A key highlight of the event was a sharing session by an invited MBA alumnus, who reflected on his postgraduate journey from enrolment to completion, offering practical insights and motivation to current students.

As the first initiative of its kind in the faculty, the colloquium was well-received and has set a strong foundation for future postgraduate academic engagements at FOBE.
