🎓 校友荣获2026年马来西亚工程师局主席奖

工程与科技资讯学院谨向本院 2024年电子工程荣誉学士课程毕业生魏正煊，荣获备受肯定的 2026年马来西亚工程师局主席奖（BEM President’s Award），致以最热烈的祝贺！

马来西亚工程师局主席奖旨在表扬学术表现卓越，并在工程专业领域展现杰出潜力的优秀工程毕业生。这项殊荣充分体现了魏正煊在求学过程中所展现的坚持、努力，以及对工程专业卓越表现的追求。

颁奖仪式于吉隆坡皇家朱兰酒店举行的 2026年全国工程大会（NEC 2026） 开幕典礼上进行。奖项由马来西亚工程部长 拿督斯里亚历山大 颁发，并获马来西亚工程师局主席 Dato’ Ir. Ibrahim bin Isa 共同见证。

本届大会由马来西亚工程师局主办，以 “数字时代中秉持诚信的工程专业”（Engineering with Integrity in the Digital Age） 为主题，汇聚了超过2,000名工程专业人士。大会强调，人工智能、自动化及数码化的发展，必须与专业诚信、职业道德及问责精神并行。

🎓 Celebrating Our Alumnus: Recipient of the BEM President’s Award 2026

Southern University College proudly congratulates Mr. Gui Zheng Xuan, our 2024 Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours graduate, on receiving the prestigious Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) President’s Award 2026.

The BEM President’s Award recognises outstanding engineering graduates for their excellent academic achievement and promising potential within the engineering profession. This distinguished recognition reflects Zheng Xuan’s dedication, perseverance and commitment to engineering excellence.

The award was presented by YB Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works Malaysia, together with Dato’ Ir. Ibrahim bin Isa, President of BEM, during the opening ceremony of the National Engineering Convention 2026 (NEC 2026) at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by BEM under the theme “Engineering with Integrity in the Digital Age,” NEC 2026 brought together more than 2,000 members of the engineering community. The convention highlighted the importance of ensuring that developments in artificial intelligence, automation and digitalisation continue to be guided by professional integrity, ethics and accountability. Ts. Shaffika Mohd Suhaimi 代表南方大学学院工程与资讯科技学院（Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, FEIT）电脑科学系，荣幸受邀于 2026年柔佛国际书展（Bazar Buku Antarabangsa Johor 2026） 担任专题分享会 《Bual Bicara Model R. Lina：马来民间故事中的规划式双向沟通，一项反思》 的主持人。该讲座由马来西亚博特拉大学（UPM）副教授 Dr. Roslina Abu Bakar 主讲。

此次分享会深入探讨了将传统民间故事转化为新兴科技与人工智能（AI）知识资源过程中所面临的挑战。虽然故事内容可以被记录与存档，但如何保留说书人的文化背景、生活经验以及深层智慧，并将这些元素有效融入智能系统训练中，仍然是一项重要且复杂的课题。

讨论中强调，科技与人工智能能够成为知识保存的重要推动力，通过系统化记录、整理及传播文化遗产，让更多人能够接触和了解珍贵的传统文化。同时，与会者也一致认同，科技应作为辅助工具，与人类专业知识相辅相成，以确保文化叙事的真实性、意义与价值得以完整保留，并负责任地传承给未来世代。

Ts. Shaffika Mohd Suhaimi, representing the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, was honoured to moderate the session "Bual Bicara Model R. Lina: Komunikasi Dua Hala Terancang dalam Cerita Rakyat Melayu, Suatu Refleksi" by Prof. Madya Dr. Roslina Abu Bakar (UPM) at Bazar Buku Antarabangsa Johor 2026.

The discussion offered valuable perspectives on the challenges of transforming traditional storytelling into digital knowledge resources for emerging technologies and AI. While stories can be documented and archived, capturing the cultural context, lived experiences, and insights of storytellers remains a significant challenge in training intelligent systems.

The session highlighted how technology and AI can serve as enablers of knowledge preservation, helping to document, organise, and share cultural heritage with wider audiences. Equally important, the discussion reinforced that technology should complement human expertise, ensuring that cultural narratives remain authentic, meaningful, and responsibly preserved for future generations.

南方大学学院与柔佛公共图书馆总馆携手推动阅读文化与数码创新
2026年8月22日，南方大学学院（Southern University College，SUC）与柔佛公共图书馆总馆（Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor，PPAJ）正式签署谅解备忘录（MOU）及合作协议（MOA），标志着双方在推动阅读文化与数码创新方面迈出重要一步。此次合作将通过开发 “Little Johor Explorer” 应用程式，共同促进柔佛州的阅读风气及数码科技发展。
双方合作旨在透过联合计划及社区参与活动，鼓励终身学习，推动科技创新与知识共享，为社会创造更多学习与发展的机会。
在此次合作中，南方大学学院工程与资讯科技学院（Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology，FEIT）发挥了重要作用，积极参与创新项目的规划、设计与开发工作，充分展现师生团队的创新理念、专业能力与创造力，为项目的成功落实作出重要贡献。

Southern University College and PPAJ Strengthen Partnership for Reading and Digital Innovation
On 22 August 2026, Southern University College (SUC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor (PPAJ), marking a significant step in promoting reading culture and digital innovation in Johor through the development of Little Johor Explorer App. The collaboration aims to encourage lifelong learning and technological advancement through joint initiatives and community engagement programmes. The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology played an important role in designing and developing the innovation project and showcasing idea and creativity.

电脑系于 BBAJ 2026 展示《Little Johor Explorer》

工程与资讯科技学院（FEIT）电脑系在 Ts. Shaffika Mohd Suhaimi 及项目团队的带领下，于 2026 年 8 月 21 日至 25 日在新山 Paradigm Mall 举办的 柔佛国际书展（Bazar Buku Antarabangsa Johor, BBAJ 2026） 上，隆重展示《Little Johor Explorer》项目。

《Little Johor Explorer》是由电脑系与柔佛州公共图书馆机构（Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor, PPAJ）合作开发的互动数码平台，旨在推广柔佛州旅游，并通过生动有趣的故事叙述与学习体验，培养儿童的阅读兴趣与习惯。

配合此项计划，电脑系也与人文与社会科学学院（FHSS）携手合作，出版了两本儿童读物《Meh Lah Johor》及《Sijori》，进一步推动阅读文化，并向年轻读者介绍柔佛的文化遗产、旅游景点及本地故事。

在为期五天的活动中，项目团队积极与儿童、家长、教育工作者、图书馆员、研究人员、业界代表及公众交流互动。参观者通过系统演示、体验测试及知识分享活动，深入了解平台的功能，并提供宝贵反馈，共同探索科技辅助学习的新方式。

活动期间获得的热烈反响，充分展现了数码创新在提升阅读素养、促进文化认同及加强社区参与方面的巨大潜力。同时，此次活动也为团队提供了与学术界、产业界及政府机构建立联系的机会，为未来的合作与研究计划开启更多可能性。

Department of Computer Science Showcases Little Johor Explorer at BBAJ 2026

The Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), represented by Ts. Shaffika Mohd Suhaimi and the project team, proudly showcased Little Johor Explorer at the Bazar Buku Antarabangsa Johor (BBAJ) 2026, held from 21 to 25 August 2026 at Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru.

Developed through a collaboration with Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor (PPAJ), Little Johor Explorer is an interactive digital platform designed to promote Johor tourism and encourage reading habits among children through engaging storytelling and learning experiences.

In conjunction with this initiative, the Department collaborated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) to produce two children's books, Meh Lah Johor and Sijori, further supporting reading culture and introducing young readers to Johor's heritage, attractions, and local stories.

Throughout the five-day event, the team engaged with children, parents, educators, librarians, researchers, industry representatives, and members of the public. Visitors participated in system demonstrations, testing sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities, providing valuable feedback while exploring new ways of learning through technology.

The positive response received highlights the potential of digital innovation in fostering literacy, cultural appreciation, and community engagement. The event also created opportunities for networking with academic, industry, and government stakeholders, opening doors for future collaborations and research initiatives.

The successful showcase of Little Johor Explorer reflects the Department's commitment to developing impactful, industry-relevant solutions that address community needs while supporting digital transformation and educational innovation. This achievement strengthens the visibility of the Department of Computer Science, FEIT, and the University as leaders in innovation, collaborative research, and community-driven technology development.

南方大学学院电机与电子工程系联合 IEM SUC 学生分会 举办了一场题为 《工程的持续性能》 的讲座。
主讲嘉宾 马来西亚工艺大学（UTM）电机工程学院高级讲师 Ts. Dr. Nurul Ezaila Alias 分享了关于传统 MOSFET 缩放的局限性，以及新一代晶体管设计的潜力。讲座强调了精准的器件建模与可靠性工程在维持现代微电子性能中的关键作用，同时也展望了纳米电子学研究的新机遇。
半导体驱动着智能手机、电动车、人工智能系统和数据中心，是数字经济的核心支柱。随着马来西亚不断迈向区域半导体制造与创新中心的地位，本次讲座凸显了加强知识与研究的重要性，以支持国家发展并提升全球竞争力。

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering together with the IEM SUC Student Section organized a seminar on “Engineering for Sustained Performance” at Southern University College.
The distinguished speaker, Ts. Dr. Nurul Ezaila Alias from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), delivered impactful insights on the limits of conventional MOSFET scaling and the potential of next generation transistor designs. Accurate modeling and reliability engineering were highlighted as essential for sustaining performance in modern microelectronics, with nanoelectronics research opening new opportunities.
Semiconductors drive smartphones, EVs, AI systems, and data centers — forming the backbone of the digital economy. With Malaysia advancing as a regional hub for semiconductor manufacturing and innovation, the seminar emphasized the importance of strengthening knowledge and research to support national growth and global competitiveness.
The program gave participants a clear view of semiconductor design and reliability, reinforcing the critical role this industry plays in shaping Malaysia’s technological future.
