Bukan hanya tentang kebersihan, tetapi juga tentang kerjasama, semangat kekitaan dan rasa tanggungjawab terhadap ruang yang kita gunakan bersama.

🧬 Research Visit & Scientific Exchange with Prof. Dr. Pilar Blancafort

On 10 September 2026, the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Dr. Pilar Blancafort from the University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, Australia, for a day of scientific exchange and research networking.

Held as part of the ASCEND2030 initiative under Penjenamaan, Jaringan & Visibility, the programme provided a platform to strengthen academic and research networks while creating opportunities for international collaboration.

The programme began with a laboratory visit, followed by a meeting with the Dean and administrators of the Faculty of Science, providing an opportunity for academic and research exchange.

The highlight of the visit was the science seminar entitled “Genome Engineering of Cancer Phenotypes using Multigenic Epigenetic Technologies,” where Prof. Dr. Pilar shared her expertise and insights into cancer epigenetics, genome engineering and epigenetic editing.

The seminar was followed by a lunch and research networking session, providing a relaxed platform for researchers in cancer, molecular biology and related areas to exchange ideas, share insights and explore potential research collaborations.

The Department of Biosciences would also like to express its sincere appreciation to the Faculty of Science, UTM, for its support and funding, which contributed to the successful organisation of this programme.

A meaningful day of knowledge sharing, research networking and international collaboration, further strengthening the Department of Biosciences’ commitment to building impactful research connections. 🌱🔬🌏

The talk will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Pilar Blancafort, a distinguished researcher in Cancer Epigenetics with an H-index of 36 and Head of the Cancer Program at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, UWA.

🌿 ACADEMIC BENCHMARKING & COLLABORATION VISIT

The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), recently conducted an Academic Benchmarking and Networking Visit to the Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI), National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM), and FGV Innovation Centre.

The visit provided an opportunity for our academic staff to explore research capabilities, facilities, knowledge exchange, and potential strategic collaborations in biotechnology and related areas.

We sincerely thank our hosts at ABI-NIBM and FGV for the warm welcome and valuable sharing. We look forward to strengthening meaningful partnerships and creating new opportunities for research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. 🤝🌱

The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), proudly congratulates Prof. Dr. Madihah Md Salleh on her participation as a Keynote Speaker at the 15th Korea–ASEAN Joint Symposium (KAJS) 2026.

Held on 21–23 June 2026 in Bali, Indonesia, the symposium focused on:

“Integrating Biomass Resources into Smart, Resilient, and Climate Sustainability.”

Her participation highlights UTM’s expertise in biomass utilisation, biotechnology, and sustainable research, while strengthening international research networking and collaboration.

🌸 Happy Retirement, Kak Leha! 🌸

Some people keep an office running.
Kak Leha kept a whole department running. 💙

To generations of Biosciences students and lecturers, Kak Leha was the person everyone knew... and, if we're being honest, the person everyone was a little afraid of. 😆
Need to book a room at the very last minute? 😅
Forgot to photocopy your test papers? 😬
PG students returning the lab key late... or worse, forgot to return it at all? 🔑👀
Better hope Kak Leha is in a good mood!

But behind that firm and no-nonsense personality was someone who cared deeply. Once you learned how things should be done (and followed the rules!), Kak Leha would go above and beyond to help.

The office never ran quite as smoothly whenever Kak Leha was away. It was during those days that we truly realised just how much we relied on her.

Her kindness never went unnoticed. Many students returned from their hometowns with little gifts just for Kak Leha, a simple gesture that spoke volumes about how much she was loved.

Thank you, Kak Leha, for 32 years, 9 months and 1 day of unwavering dedication, patience, and countless behind-the-scenes contributions.

Your office chair may be empty, but the stories, laughter, and memories you've left behind will stay with us for many years to come.

💙 Happy Retirement, Kak Leha. Once a Biosciences family member, always a Biosciences family member. We will miss you more than you know!
