Audit Session Evaluates Quality of Academic and Industry Networks at FKT, UTM

JOHOR BAHRU, 21 September 2026 — The Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), hosted an Audit Session on the Quality of Academic and Industry Networks on 21 September 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

The audit was conducted by UTM’s Strategy and Global Eminence Office to review and assess the faculty’s academic and industry networking initiatives, with particular emphasis on the quality, effectiveness and strategic value of its external engagements.

The auditing team was led by Prof. Dr. Suresh Ramakrishnan (UTM Director for Strategy and Global Eminence) together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asrul Izam Azmi (Manager for Global and External Engagement, FKE), Ms. Aimi Aqilah Azman, and Ms. Mugen.

Representing FKT were Prof. Dr. Mat Uzir Wahit (Dean of FKT), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainul Akmar Zakaria (Manager for Global and External Engagements) and Mdm. Norhafizah Hamdan.

The session provided an opportunity for the audit team and FKT representatives to review the faculty’s existing academic and industry networks, including its engagement with external partners and the mechanisms supporting sustainable collaborations. The audit also served as a platform to identify areas for strengthening the faculty’s network ecosystem in alignment with UTM’s strategic aspirations.

The engagement reflects FKT’s continued commitment to enhancing the quality and impact of its academic and industry partnerships, while supporting UTM’s broader efforts towards global engagement, institutional excellence and stronger external networks.

SERPONG, INDONESIA, 15 September 2026 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) further strengthened its international research collaboration with Indonesia through a two-day visit by Prof. Dr. Mat Uzir Wahit, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT), to the Pusat Riset Teknologi Polimer – BRIN (Center for Polymer Technology Research) at the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Area (KST B.J. Habibie), Serpong, Tangerang Selatan, Banten, Indonesia, from 14 to 15 September 2026.

The visit was coordinated with Dr. Joddy Arya Laksmono, who served as the main contact from BRIN, and provided an important platform for UTM and BRIN to explore opportunities for closer cooperation in polymer technology, advanced materials, research and innovation.

The Pusat Riset Teknologi Polimer – BRIN is part of Indonesia’s national research ecosystem, with research activities in polymer technology and related areas. The visit enabled Prof. Mat Uzir to gain a closer insight into the research capabilities, facilities and expertise available at BRIN, while also identifying potential areas of mutual interest with FKT, UTM.

Discussions during the visit centred on opportunities to develop joint research activities, researcher collaboration, postgraduate education and supervision, student and staff mobility, joint publications, sharing of research expertise and facilities, and potential collaborative projects.

Particular attention was given to the potential for collaboration in polymer science and engineering, advanced polymeric materials, sustainable materials and other emerging research areas where the complementary expertise of researchers from UTM and BRIN could contribute to addressing regional and global technological challenges.

For FKT, the engagement is strategically important as the Faculty continues to expand its international research network and strengthen partnerships with leading universities and research institutions in the region. Collaboration with BRIN could also provide new opportunities for FKT researchers and postgraduate students to access specialised expertise and research facilities while developing multidisciplinary research initiatives.

The visit further reflects UTM’s commitment to building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships that connect academic institutions with national research organisations and translate research expertise into innovation and societal impact.

Prof. Mat Uzir’s visit to the Pusat Riset Teknologi Polimer – BRIN also provided an avenue for both parties to discuss possible follow-up initiatives and establish a foundation for more structured collaboration in the future.

The engagement in Serpong marks another important step in strengthening UTM–Indonesia research linkages, particularly in polymer technology and advanced materials, while contributing to UTM’s broader internationalisation agenda and commitment to advancing research, innovation and talent development.
