Following the success of the Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) fundraiser event, two of our committee, Elizabeth and Vanessa had the opportunity to visit the DEBRA Malaysia centre located in Setia Alam on the 28th of Dec 2021.
DEBRA is a national charity that supports individuals living with EB by providing aid in bandage supply, milk powder, medications and selected daily necessities. They also organize awareness talks and activities to cultivate a supportive environment for the children.
Elizabeth and Vanessa had the privilege to have lunch with the co-founder of DEBRA, Ms Khatijah who shared about her personal experience with EB and the ‘butterfly children’ at the centre.
Upon visit, the DEBRA centre appeared tidy with adequate well-thought-out facilities to cater for the needs of the EB community. There were ample of supplies ready to be given away to the children such as Mepitel dressings, Tubifast bandages, PediaSure milk formula, gauze dressings etc.
There are currently no formal events being held as the development of the centre has been badly impacted by the COVID19 pandemic. However, Ms Khatijah and a committed team of dermatologists are hopeful for the continual growth of their supportive EB community.
