Humans of UoSM | Meet Suganthi Arputhasamy
For more than 11 years, Suganthi has been working behind the scenes to help students take their first steps at UoSM. She joined the University in 2014 as a Senior Administrative Officer in the Student Office and has since grown through several roles to become our Admissions Lead today.
What has kept her at UoSM all these years? The opportunity to learn, take on new challenges and grow along the way.
For Suganthi, one of the most rewarding parts of Admissions is seeing an applicant finally become a UoSM student. After supporting them through questions, qualifications and the admission process, seeing them enrol makes all the work behind the scenes worthwhile.
When things get hectic, she keeps it simple. Stay organised, prioritise what needs attention and rely on a supportive team.
But there’s a side of Suganthi her colleagues may not see. While she may come across as quiet and serious at work, she enjoys singing, music, travelling and spending time with her family. She also still keeps in touch with her four closest university friends, none of whom are based in Johor Bahru.
After 11 years of working with students, she has picked up a few lessons from them too. She admires how confidently young people today know what they want, balance their studies and social lives, and understand the importance of networking from an early age.
Looking back, she wishes she had learned some of these lessons when she was younger too.
For Suganthi, being part of UoSM has been a journey of learning, growing and helping countless students begin theirs.
