Compliance Audit: Supporting the Mandatory CDP for REMs

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), has successfully concluded a compliance audit conducted by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).

This audit is a critical milestone for UTM a Registered Training Institution (RTI). Under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024, it is now mandatory for all Registered Energy Managers (REM) to complete a specific number of CDP hours to renew their practicing certificates.

By passing this compliance session, we ensure that our CDP programs remain fully accredited and aligned with the latest regulatory standards set by the Commission.

Mission Accomplished: Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 1 Training

We just wrapped up an incredible 5-day journey toward energy excellence! From 4 – 8 May 2026, we successfully concluded our latest Registered Energy Manager (REM) Type 1 Training session in collaboration with UTMSPACE.

We are thrilled to announce that Prof. Dr. Haslenda Hashim has successfully secured a prestigious consultation project from the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia.

This project, titled "STUDY ON UNDER PERFORMANCE OF DECLARED ANNUAL AVAILABILITY (DAA) IN BIOENERGY FEED-IN APPROVAL HOLDERS (FiAHs) UNDER FEED-IN TARIFF (FiT) MECHANISM AND RECOMMENDATION OF IMPROVEMENT MEASURES," is a significant step toward improving the efficiency and sustainability of bioenergy systems.

Dr. Haslenda Hashim, Research Fellow at Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), Research Institute for Sustainable Environment (RISE) and Professor at Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, UTM, highlights how converting food waste into renewable energy can strengthen Malaysia’s resilience against global geopolitical uncertainties.

Oil Shocks & Climate Change: A Double Threat to Malaysia?

From the price of your groceries to the water in your taps, everything is connected!

A recent feature by PROSPECT Research Fellow, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah at UTM sheds light on the FEW (Food, Energy, and Water) Nexus. When global oil prices jump or climate change causes droughts, it creates a "cascading effect" across our entire economy.

Why this matters to YOU:

Water Security: Energy is needed to treat and pump water. If energy costs surge, water supply becomes more expensive and difficult to maintain.

Food Prices: Most of our food depends on imported fertilisers and fuel-intensive logistics. Disruptions in West Asia can lead to 10-14 day shipping delays and higher prices at the market.

Energy Risks: Our reservoirs and hydropower plants are feeling the heat from El Niño, making our power grid more vulnerable.
