SHAH ALAM, 22 May 2026 — The Centre for Academic Advancement and Flexible Learning (CAFEL) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Jabatan Akademik dan Antarabangsa (JAnA), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, in a continued effort to strengthen academic programme management, quality assurance practices, and flexible learning initiatives.
Held on Friday morning, the visit served as a strategic platform for both institutions to exchange insights and best practices in managing academic ecosystems and advancing innovative learning approaches aligned with current higher education needs.
CAFEL extended its appreciation to the host, Assoc. Prof. Dr Suriyani Ariffin, Director of Bahagian Hal Ehwal Kurikulum, Jabatan Akademik dan Antarabangsa (JAnA), for the warm hospitality and insightful sharing throughout the visit. Also present during the session was Dr Azlan Abdul Aziz, Director of the Digital Learning Division, Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (iCEPS), whose participation further enriched the discussions on digital and flexible learning initiatives.
The CAFEL delegation was led by its Director, Dr Jehana Ermy Jamaluddin, alongside academic representatives Ms Siti Zubaidah Othman and Ms Nalissa Ayub, both serving as PACE Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Also present were Mr Wong Jee Khai, LIFT Coordinator, and Mr Rahmat Abdul Wahid, Head of Unit (FLEX).
Representatives from the Quality Advancement Centre (QAC), namely Ms Norhuieda Zainal Abidin and Ms Elya Sufliza Marsom, also participated in the engagement.
Among the key areas discussed during the benchmarking session were governance and management of academic programmes, programme review and development processes, as well as teaching and assessment practices with emphasis on the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
The session also focused on flexible learning initiatives, particularly the management and expansion of micro-credential offerings. Discussions explored approaches in identifying suitable courses for micro-credentials, course development and delivery strategies, marketing initiatives, and the Quality Verification and Certification (QVC MC) insights.
The benchmarking visit reflects CAFEL’s commitment to fostering collaborative networks and continuous improvement in academic excellence, flexible education, and lifelong learning practices.
Both parties expressed optimism for future collaborations that would contribute towards strengthening innovative, quality-driven, and learner-centred higher education ecosystems in Malaysia.
