In this insightful commentary, Assistant Professor Dr from the Department of Mass Communication, FCI, highlights why Malaysia must act now to prepare for an ageing society.

South Korea’s rapid ageing population offers a stark warning for Malaysia: a society can become old long before it becomes prepared.

In 2025, more than 21% of South Korea’s population was aged 65 and above, placing the country firmly in the UN’s “super-aged society” category. This demographic shift has intensified pressure on healthcare services, social support systems and family caregivers.

Malaysia may not be there yet, but we are moving in the same direction.

Today, our DoM Broadcasting students stepped beyond the classroom and into a real industry environment at Jelas Juta Studio ! 🎥🎬✨

The students had the opportunity to experience the dynamics of a professional multi-camera production 🎛️📡, gaining valuable hands-on exposure to the workflows, equipment, coordination and teamwork involved in a studio production 🤝💡.

From camera operation 🎥, floor management 🎤, to directing 🎬 and production coordination 🎧, the experience gave students a closer look at the demands and excitement of working in a professional broadcasting environment 🌟🏙️.

Experiences like these are essential in bridging the gap between classroom learning 📚 and industry practice 🏭, preparing our future broadcasters and content creators with the practical skills and confidence needed for the creative industry 🚀🎨.

A big thank you 🙌💐 to Jelas Juta Studio for providing this valuable industry exposure and learning experience! 🌟👏

FROM CAMPUS EVENTS TO REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE!

On 19 August 2026, students from the Corporate Communication Society (CCS), Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), under the guidance of CCS Advisor Dr Cheah Shu Xu, collaborated with Tantaworks for an engaging Event Management Sharing Session!

The session gave students a valuable glimpse into the realities of event management, from planning a six-month event timeline and managing budgets and capacity to navigating unexpected challenges, such as sudden weather changes and emergencies. Through real- world experiences and industry insights, students gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to plan and deliver a successful event.

Here are the guest speaker’s Top 5 Takeaways:
1. Start before you’re ready: Action creates clarity
2. Plan the numbers first: Budget and capacity come before the hype
3. Sponsors buy values, not just ideas: Align with their mission, not just a cool concept
4. Every event has problems: Stay calm, communicate, and always have a Plan B
5. Uni projects can become your career: What starts as a class assignment can launch your future

This insightful session bridged the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, allowing students to connect their campus event experiences with the realities of professional event management. More importantly, it encouraged students to see every campus event as an opportunity to develop skills, gain experience, and prepare for their future careers.

The Corporate Communication Society would like to extend its sincere gratitude to
Tantaworks for generously sharing its industry knowledge, practical experiences, and valuable insights with our students.

Here’s to turning campus experiences into real-world opportunities!

Students from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Journalism in Chinese Media programme, led by JC lecturer Ms Chin Jee Yin, recently visited the Malaysian Chinese Museum at the Wisma Hua Zong as part of their learning beyond the classroom.

Through the guided tour, students explored the history and cultural development of the Malaysian Chinese community, from the voyages of Zheng He to the early migration and settlement of Chinese communities in Malaysia.

The visit helped students understand the importance of historical and social context in journalism, enabling them to approach news reporting with a broader perspective and greater accuracy.

It was a meaningful learning experience that connected classroom knowledge with Malaysia’s rich history and cultural heritage.
