UTAR Welcomes Tamagawa University, Japan

UTAR met the delegation from Tamagawa University on 19 August 2026 for a discussion on the Agriculture and Environmental Science Study Abroad Programme, alongside a series of academic talks.

The programme included "Gaps Initiative in ASEAN " presented by Prof Koji Ishikawa, "Wildlife Issues in Japan: Effects on Increasing Deer Populations" talked by Prof Yoshikazu Seki, and "Correlation between Field-Measured Grain Moisture Content and C-Band SAR Backscatter: Potential Use of Sentinel-1 SAR Data to Estimate Optimal Harvest Timing in Rice Crop Cultivation" shared by Prof. Shoko Kobayashi.

The visit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and explored opportunities to strengthen academic collaboration, student mobility and study abroad initiatives between UTAR and Tamagawa University.

On 17 August 2026, UTAR Sungai Long Campus hosted the Signing Ceremony for the Renewal of the Student Exchange Agreement with Hungkuang University, Taiwan!

The ceremony opened with institutional videos from both universities, followed by warm welcome addresses by UTAR President Ir. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ewe Hong Tat and Hungkuang University President Dr. Hung-Yee Shu. The renewal of our Student Exchange Agreement was then formally signed, marking a continued partnership to strengthen collaboration in student exchange, short-term programmes, internships, joint teaching and research, and other academic opportunities.

The event concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, a group photo, and a delightful luncheon. We look forward to deepening our friendship and achieving shared success together!

On Friday, 14 August 2026, UTAR Sungai Long Campus was delighted to welcome a delegation from South China Business College, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies!

The visit began with introductions and showcase videos from both institutions, followed by a warm welcome address by Associate Professor Lai Soon Onn, Director of the Office of International Affairs at UTAR, and remarks by Professor Jiang Yuansong, Head of International Exchange Section at South China Business College. Both sides held fruitful discussions on potential collaboration, covering student exchange programmes to be launched early next year, 2+2 and 3+1 undergraduate pathways, foundation and postgraduate programmes, and other future cooperation opportunities. The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs, a group photo, and a campus tour.

On Friday, 7 August 2026, UTAR Sungai Long Campus warmly welcomed a delegation from the Shanxi Provincial Acupuncture Hospital of China!

The productive meeting brought both sides together to introduce representatives, showcase institutional videos, and exchange warm welcome addresses by UTAR President Prof Ewe Hong Tat and Prof. Hao Chongyao, Party Secretary of Shanxi Provincial Acupuncture Hospital. We also explored potential collaboration opportunities, exchanged gifts, and toured the campus.

This visit marks a wonderful step toward stronger ties and we look forward to building a bright future of partnership, mutual learning, and shared progress together!

It was a pleasure to welcome a delegation from Tianjin Renai College (天津仁爱学院) to UTAR for a productive meeting.

During the visit, we introduced our respective institutions, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and discussed opportunities for future collaboration, including student mobility and joint talent development programmes. The visit concluded with a campus tour, providing an opportunity to showcase our learning environment and facilities.

Dr Michelle Fei-Yu Hsieh, Associate Research Fellow from Academia Sinica, Taiwan, to the Kampar Campus on 6 July 2026.

Dr Hsieh delivered an insightful talk entitled "Qualitative Research in Economics and Sociology: SMEs and Innovation," where she shared valuable perspectives on qualitative research methodologies and their applications in the fields of economics, sociology, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and innovation.

The talk was jointly organised by the Centre for Economic Studies (CES) and the Office of International Affairs (OIA), providing an enriching platform for academic exchange and meaningful discussions among faculty members, researchers, and students.

🤝 Deepening a Strategic Partnership for Greater Impact

What began as a collaboration between UTAR and FMM Perak in 2009 has now reached a significant milestone with the expansion of the partnership to the national level through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) on 24 July at Wisma FMM.

This new chapter reflects the mutual trust and long-standing relationship built over the years, while deepening and strengthening collaboration in talent development, industry-driven research, innovation, work-based learning, professional training, and knowledge exchange.

🌏 Building Global Partnerships for Better Health and Research!

UTAR was delighted to welcome Prof. Moi Meng Ling from the School of International Health, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, for a guest lecture and collaboration meeting on 24 July 2026.

The visit began with an inspiring guest lecture, where Prof. Moi shared her expertise and research experiences in international health and tropical diseases. Her insightful presentation sparked meaningful discussions and provided valuable perspectives on addressing global health challenges through research and international collaboration.

The programme continued with a collaboration meeting attended by Mr. Gary Tang Kok Lian, President of the Japan Graduates Association of Malaysia and Adjunct Professor of Teh Hong Piow Faculty of Business and Finance (THP FBF), Prof. Au Yong Hui Nee, Dean of THP FBF, Dr. Lim Tuck Meng, Dean of the Faculty of Science, together with representatives from the Faculty of Science and the Office of International Affairs.
