STRATEGIC COLLABORATION DISCUSSION BETWEEN UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA SABAH AND MONT ROYALE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently welcomed a courtesy visit from Mont Royale International College (MRIC) for a strategic discussion on potential areas of collaboration in both academic and non-academic initiatives.
The MRIC delegation was led by Dr. Sugumaran Chellaya, President of MRIC, together with Ms. Shamini Velayalhan, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Zawir Ahmad bin Shamsul Kelana, Special Officer.
Representing UMS were Puan Zallifah, Deputy Director (Finance), UMSFLEC; Prof. Mafya Dr. Chew Tze Cheng @ Nur Alesha Chew, Deputy Director (Academic), UMSFLEC; Dr. Sharifah Milda binti Amirul, Deputy Dean (Academic and International), Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy (FPEP); Dr. Andi Tamsang binti Andi Kele, Head of the Hospitality Management Programme, FPEP; Mr. Aminuddin bin Ibrahim Lastar, Digital Learning Coordinator, UMSFLEC; Dr. Siti Zubaidah binti Patuwan; Ms Noor Famieza binti Santara, and Ms. Normala binti Awg Abas, Management of UMSFLEC.
The discussion focused on exploring potential strategic collaboration in the delivery of high-demand undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly through offshore programme offerings that can expand access to quality higher education.
Among the key areas discussed was the potential implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate offshore programmes involving several faculties at UMS. FPEP also expressed interest in exploring programmes in areas such as Logistics, Hospitality Management, and International Business.
Other potential programme offerings, including Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Early Childhood Education, and Data Science, were also proposed for further consideration.
The session provided an opportunity for both institutions to share their respective strengths, capabilities and aspirations, while identifying areas where their expertise and resources could complement each other. The discussion marks a positive step towards strengthening institutional partnerships, expanding lifelong learning opportunities, and widening access to higher education.
UMS and MRIC look forward to further engagements to refine the proposed areas of collaboration and develop meaningful educational opportunities for learners.
