This event promises to be a remarkable highlight of our Ocean Celebration 2023 and we would very much appreciate your attendance.
Here are the highlights of the event:

🔸1. Talks on Protecting Sabah's Marine Wildlife and El Nino Awareness (9.30 am )
We have organised informative talks on the important topics of Sabah's marine wildlife conservation and climate awareness. A high profile speaker from Sabah Wildlife Department (Puan Siti Nur'Ain Ampuan Acheh) and a renowned expert in the field (Assoc. Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ramzah Dambul, CEO, Institute for Development Studies, Sabah (IDS)) will enlighten us on the importance of marine biodiversity conservation and the impact of climate change. This event will provide a unique opportunity to broaden our understanding and explore possible avenues for our research and conservation efforts.

🔸2. MOU Signing Ceremony (11.00 am )
We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BMRI, UMS and the Sabah Fisheries Department. This collaboration marks an important milestone and the Vice Chancellor of UMS will grace us with his presence.

🔸3. Closing Ceremony of the Ocean Celebration 2023 (11.00 am )
Finally, we will close Ocean Celebration 2023 with a grand closing ceremony. It will be a moment of reflection and appreciation for the incredible efforts of our organising committee. We invite you all to join us in celebrating the successful conclusion of this event.

🔸Brief Introduction:
This international webinar aims to raise awareness about management effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) as obligations in multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs). It will share and exchange information and knowledge on new MEAs obligations e.g. CBD Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Target 3, identify assessment tools and criteria, the challenges faced at international, regional and national levels, and consider options towards strategies for more effectively managed MPAs and OECMs, to achieve good and equitable Ocean Governance.

We will be joined by several international, regional and national MPA specialists from important organizations involved in evaluating the management effectiveness of MPAs/OECMs to give the State- of-the-art status of the tools available and suitability to meet the obligations under the various important MEAs such as CBD GBF, etc.

Our station - Sea Science Adventure will be having a mini experiment Little Einstein: Microplastic Hunter for the children to learn on the degradation/pollution of plastics and how they can be detected in marine samples. Dont miss the chance to win prizes by participating in the Kahoot quiz! You will also be captivated by our own hatchery reared animals such as fish, mud crab, sea cucumber and giant freshwater prawn. Enjoy yourselves at the face-painting booth and dont forget to get your map stamped for a surprise lucky draw 😉 🤩
