Breaching the Silence x IMU

The health screening for the Deaf community at NESDA Seremban last Sunday was a huge success!
We managed to screen all 35 attendees under supervision in a holistic fashion 😊

At the same time, we also educated all patients regarding diabetes mellitus and hypertension by communicating in Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (sign language) while playing an educational video created by our team 😀

Lastly, a huge shout-out to our community partner, Persatuan Orang Pekak Negeri Sembilan for their continuous support from planning to ex*****on of the event 🥳

We would like to announce that we will be having our annual health screening this Sunday (27/3/2022), in collaboration with Persatuan Orang Pekak Negeri Sembilan (NESDA) to provide FREE health screening to the Deaf community 😊

Our Deaf Awareness Week 2022 was wrapped up with a zoom sharing session, themed - A Silent Story. 🤫 Thank you for joining us.
It started off with a brief sharing on Deaf culture by our committee members, followed by 5 deaf individuals to share about the challenges in their lives. Their stories were truly inspiring and eye-opening for the participants.
The online session ended well with lucky draws and quizzes. Congratulations to all the winners !!😆

IMU Deaf Awareness Week 2022 was held last week as the first step to bridge the gap between the Deaf community and the Hearing community. This in line with our mission to build IMU as a deaf aware university.

Over 100 IMU staff and students visited the physical booth and game stations to learn about Deaf culture and basic sign language. We are delighted to have a talented deaf papercut artist, Mr. Harry Chong Harry PaperCut and 4 deaf visitors with us in the IMU Atrium, Bukit Jalil. 😇

We hope that through this Deaf Awareness Week, IMU staff and students would have a better understanding on deaf community and develop an interest in learning sign language to improve the communication with the deaf individuals. 🤟🤟
