A huge congratulations to Fung Yue Qian, our MIA Fine Art Semester 5 student, for winning the Silver Award in the Emerging Artist Category at the 16th UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) 2026, taking home RM8,000 in cash! 🏆💰

At just 19 years old, Yue Qian has already achieved an incredible milestone in her artistic journey. Winning such a prestigious award at this young age is a remarkable breakthrough and a proud moment for both her and the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) Malaysian Institute of Art - MIA.

May this be just the beginning of an exciting journey ahead. Keep exploring, keep experimenting and, most importantly, never stop believing in yourself. There are so many possibilities waiting for you in the art world! 🎨🔥

Born in Semenyih, Selangor, Lim Tong Xin graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Malaysian Institute of Art - MIA in 2022. She has made history by winning the Grand Prize in the Established Artist Category at the 16th UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) 2026, taking home RM100,000 in cash. Her artistic journey is a remarkable story of talent, dedication and perseverance. 🧑🏻‍🎨🎨✨
Her award-winning artwork, She Waited, is a deeply personal reflection on her grandmother’s final year of life, exploring vulnerability, caregiving, loss, memory and the enduring power of love. ❤️ 👵🏻💕

“Where Echoes Meet Layers”

MOSAIC is a Fine Art final-year diploma exhibition dedicated to the theme “Where Echoes Meet Layers”, where reflected voices and thoughts are imprinted onto layers of medium.

The students refine their ideas by absorbing perspectives from their surroundings, reflecting and deliberating until memories and intended emotions begin to emerge within their artworks. With each new layer, they build upon their original conception, enriching the work along the way — until even the faint spark of its origin may become lost.

What remains are echoes of their intended thoughts.

We are delighted to share that the 3rd Year Drawing Competition is going BIGGER this year! 🌏🖍️

After two successful years at the national level, the competition is now expanding to the Asia-Pacific regional stage, bringing together young talents from:

🇦🇺 Australia • 🇳🇿 New Zealand • 🇮🇳 India • 🇯🇵 Japan • 🇨🇳 China • 🇲🇾 Malaysia • 🇮🇩 Indonesia • 🇰🇷 Korea • 🇹🇼 Taiwan

This is an exciting opportunity for students and artists to showcase their creativity and artistic talent alongside peers from across the region! 🌏🎨

🏆 1st & 2nd Prize Winners of Malaysia will represent Malaysia at the Regional Level Competition.

✈️ Regional Grand Winner will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Germany for 2! 🇩🇪✨

There is NO specific theme this year — simply draw whatever inspires you! 💭🎨

To participate, each submission must include a photograph of the completed artwork together with Faber-Castell Art & Graphic or Creative Studio products.

📌 Competition Period: 1 September – 31 October 2025
