🔧 Exploring Reverse Engineering with TAR UMT!
On 7 October 2026, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET), in collaboration with TAR UMT Johor Branch, visited Foon Yew High School, Seri Alam, to conduct a Reverse Engineering Workshop for Form 6 students enrolled in the elective course「Further Study Guidance」.

Led by Dr Tan Kang Huai from the Department of Manufacturing Technology, the workshop introduced students to the development of engineering and manufacturing technologies, the concept of reverse engineering, and the practical applications of 3D scanning.

🌟 The highlight of the workshop was a live demonstration of a 3D scanner, which allowed students to experience the scanning process firsthand and observe how the physical features of an object could be captured and transformed into digital models. The students’ enthusiastic participation and active engagement made the session both meaningful and enjoyable.

👏 We hope this workshop has inspired the students to explore the exciting world of engineering and technology, discover their potential, and consider the diverse career and further study opportunities available in these fields.

🤝 Exploring Industry–University Collaboration at Malayan Flour Mills Berhad, Lumut

Last Thursday, representatives from the Department of Manufacturing Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, TAR UMT visited Malayan Flour Mills Berhad (MFM), Lumut.

The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration between TAR UMT and MFM, particularly in the areas of Work-Based Learning (WBL) and talent development.

Through closer collaboration with industry, we hope to provide our students with meaningful opportunities to gain real-world experience, develop industry-relevant skills, and better understand the needs and expectations of the manufacturing sector.

We would like to thank the MFM team for their warm hospitality, valuable sharing and insightful discussion. We look forward to building a stronger industry–university partnership and creating more opportunities for the development of future-ready manufacturing talent. 🌟

🏆🎉 CHAMPION ALERT! 🤖🥇

We are proud to announce that our students have been crowned Champions in the 16kg Multibot Category at the Youth Robot Challenge 2026, held at IKTBN Bukit Mertajam! 🎉

This outstanding achievement was made possible through the dedication and teamwork of our 15-student team, representing:
🔹 FOET – 13 students
🔹 FOCS – 1 student
🔹 CPUS – 1 student
🔹 As well as many others who contributed behind the scenes.

The competition was highly competitive, featuring 17 robots from universities, vocational institutions, and internal teams. Our students battled through challenging matches against strong opponents, including an international team from India, IKTBN Chembong, and IKTBN Balik Pulau.

Under intense pressure, the team remained focused, executed their strategy brilliantly, and ultimately claimed the Champion title. Their achievement reflects not only technical excellence, but also resilience, teamwork, and determination.

Congratulations to our amazing students on this well-deserved victory! 👏 We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to all lecturers, mentors, staff, and supporters whose guidance and encouragement made this success possible.

Here’s to many more achievements ahead. Let’s continue to innovate, inspire, and make TAR UMT proud! 🚀✨

Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coach and Tutor Development Workshop

On 9 June 2026, FOET had the opportunity to conduct the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coach and Tutor Development Workshop for representatives from Kian Joo Can Factory (KJCF) and academic staffs of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET).

The workshop brought together 11 participants from KJCF and 5 academic staff members from FOET, providing a valuable platform to strengthen the collaboration between industry and academia in supporting Work-Based Learning (WBL) implementation.

Throughout the session, participants discussed the roles and responsibilities of WBL coaches and tutors, effective student mentoring strategies, assessment and monitoring processes, as well as best practices to ensure meaningful workplace learning experiences for students.

As WBL continues to bridge classroom learning with real industrial practice, the commitment and active participation from both industry and academic partners are essential in nurturing competent, industry-ready graduates.

A sincere thank you to Kian Joo Can Factory and FOET for their support, engagement, and dedication towards enhancing student learning and talent development. We look forward to strengthening this partnership and creating more impactful learning opportunities for our students.

🏆 National Engineering Triumph: 2nd Prize at Tan Sri Haji Yusoff Ibrahim FYP Competition 2025!

Huge congratulations to Lee Hao Yuen from TAR UMT Mechanical Engineering for winning the 2nd Prize at this year’s prestigious national competition organized by IEM.

The Best of the Best:
In a competition where every university nominates only their single best project per discipline, Hao Yuen’s work, "Design and Fabrication of 3D-Printed Splints for Wrist Fractures," emerged as the top-ranked Mechanical Engineering project in Malaysia.
Well done, Hao Yuen! You have set a remarkable standard for our engineering community.
