🎉🎉TAR UMT and Hebei Academy of Social Sciences (HEASS) Formalise Strategic Partnership to Advance Academic and Research Collaboration

Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences (HEASS) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement is to strengthen academic and research collaboration activities between Malaysia and China.
Building on the existing research collaboration on retirement security for workers in Malaysia and China, the MoU further expands institutional cooperation by establishing a broader framework for academic and research initiatives. This partnership aims to foster knowledge exchange, promote collaborative research opportunities, and strengthen long-term institutional ties, reflecting both institutions' shared commitment to advancing academic and research excellence between Malaysia and China.

Our postgraduate orientation session marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our postgraduate students. The session was more than just an introduction to university life. It provided a platform for students to familiarise themselves with the university, gain valuable insights into postgraduate studies, and connect with fellow students and university representatives. The session also helped students better understand the expectations, as well as the support and resources available to assist them throughout their academic journey and ensure a fulfilling academic experience.

🌱 Requirements:

Congratulations to Chang Jing Yi, Bachelor of Food Science (Honours) student from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, TAR UMT, on receiving the Runner-Up at the AOAC Southeast Asia Section Student Awards 2026.🏆

Her award-winning project, “Valorising Banana Peel into Bioactive Edible Film through Chlorella vulgaris Incorporation,” explores the transformation of banana peel waste into a sustainable, biodegradable edible film with enhanced antioxidant and prebiotic properties.

The research highlights the potential to turn agricultural by-products into innovative, value-added food packaging materials, contributing to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Supervised by Associate Professor Ts. Dr Tang Pei Ling, Jing Yi’s achievement reflects the importance of strong academic mentorship and a supportive research environment in nurturing young researchers. TAR UMT continues to provide students with opportunities and platforms to strengthen their research capabilities and showcase their work at national and international levels.

📚 Empowering Researchers. Elevating Publications. Inspiring Excellence.

The Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research (CPSR), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) successfully organised the CPSR Research Culture Workshop Series 2026: Publishing in Top-Tier Journals on 4 August 2026.

The workshop featured Senior Professor Dr. Garry Tan Wei Han, who shared practical strategies on identifying suitable journals, understanding publication quality indicators, and preparing manuscripts that meet the standards of top-tier journals. Participants also gained valuable insights from Mr. William Loh Wui Lun of Emerald Publishing on publication ethics, research integrity, and the responsible use of AI in scholarly publishing.

👏 A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished speakers and all participants for making the workshop a great success. Together, we continue to cultivate a vibrant research culture and advance research excellence at TAR UMT.
