**START YOUR MANDARIN JOURNEY WITH A STRONG FOUNDATION**

In the new age of communication, Mandarin is no longer just a language we speak.

We speak it. We listen to it. We read messages, recognise characters, type, write and interact digitally every day.

That is why our **Basic Mandarin Course (A1.1)** takes a comprehensive four-skills approach from the very beginning:

Designed for complete beginners, the course builds Mandarin systematically from zero — combining Hanyu Pinyin, pronunciation, Chinese characters, basic strokes and character formation, numbers, greetings, dates, everyday communication and an introduction to Chinese calligraphy.

**Why learn all four skills?**

Chinese characters are not something that needs to be postponed until much later.

Starting with reading and writing helps you recognise vocabulary visually, understand how the language is constructed, remember what you learn, type Mandarin digitally and prepare for increasingly authentic communication as you progress.

Our vision is not simply to teach students a collection of useful phrases.

It is to provide a **holistic foundation for the Mandarin of today and tomorrow** — connecting sound, meaning, characters, communication and culture, and preparing learners for continued progression from beginner to intermediate and beyond.

History is never just one story.

*The Secret Drawer* is a new original Malaysian documentary-theatre work that opens a rarely discussed chapter of our past — the world of leftist youth, social activism, political detention and the idealism of the 1960s.

At its heart are the true family memories of two daughters. One father was a leftist youth involved in theatre and social activism who was imprisoned. The other was a political detainee whose family archive contains nearly 60 official documents — including a 1964 detention order, a 1967 banishment order, and decades of appeals, rejections and temporary entry permits.

Through personal stories, archival documents, re-enactments, poetry and songs, the production explores not only political history, but also family, memory and identity — and how the ideals and struggles of one generation continue to shape the next.

For anyone interested in **alternative perspectives on Malaysian history**, this is a rare opportunity to encounter the past not through a textbook, but through the people and families who lived it.

And fittingly for a Malaysian story, it is told through our multilingual reality:

You do not need to speak Chinese to follow the performance.

Following its presentation at the 2025 *What The Elders Left Us* Festival, *The Secret Drawer* returns as the opening production of the new Studio@JCPAC.

🌼 作品賞析

本作品採用「瓶花象天三種南點插倒掛基本型」，取天地自然運行之勢，以南點插配合倒掛枝法，營造上下、橫斜與俯仰相生的空間。朱蕉葉向上挺立承天，紅雀珊瑚則由瓶口向右伸展而徐徐下垂，一升一降，形成全作最鮮明的動勢；三朵大黃菊高低錯落，金黃明亮，凝聚視覺重心，淡藍色藍星花穿插其間，以小襯大、以冷襯暖，龜背竹則於基部橫展承托，使整體疏密有致、剛柔相濟。

中華花藝不只求花色之美，更藉枝葉俯仰寄寓人生。黃菊象徵高潔與堅貞，挺立之葉有昂揚之志，倒掛曲枝則展現順勢而行的柔韌；上有昂舉、中有凝聚、下有垂展，看似方向相反，實則彼此成全。人生亦然，向上有志，俯身有度，能伸亦能屈，方能於進退之間守住本心，在天地之間自成其姿。
