UMPEDAC organized the NASA (Nurturing Adolescents on Sustainability Awareness) Program – Phase 1, titled “Knowledge Sharing and Innovation Idea Presentation,” which was held at Dewan SMK Munshi Abdullah, Sabak Bernam on 6 May 2026. This activity aimed to raise students’ awareness of the importance of Science and Technology in developing sustainable well-being in the country, as well as to nurture greater interest and curiosity in STEM fields, while encouraging students to choose science-related streams.

The program was officiated by the Deputy Director of the Student Development Sector, Selangor State Education Department, Tuan Haji Yusaini Salleh, together with the Executive Director of UMPEDAC and the NASA Program Head. Participating schools included SMK Munshi Abdullah (Sabak Bernam), SBP Integrasi Sabak Bernam, SMK Agama Tun Rahah, and SMK Bagan Terap. Also present were the Deputy Director of the Planning Sector, Sabak Bernam District Education Office, En Mohammad Zakiyuddin bin Abdul Hamid, the Deputy Director (Academic) of Kuala Langat Community College, Ts Pn Kaslia binti Kasiran, as well as lecturers from Kuala Langat Community College (KKKL) and Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah (PSIS), who served as mentors for each participating school.

Various activities were conducted throughout the program, including knowledge-sharing sessions on solar energy, demonstrations of renewable energy technologies, podcast sessions, and innovation idea presentations by the participating secondary school students.

We proudly formalized the signing of an MoU between UMPEDAC, Universiti Malaya, which is represented by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Jeyraj Selvaraj, and North East Renewable Energy Research Lab, India, which is presented by Mr. Prakash Singh, uniting leading institutions in a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy research and innovation. This landmark agreement opens new pathways for joint projects, knowledge exchange, and academic engagement -- laying a strong foundation for impactful, future-ready collaboration.

Prof. Osama A. Fouad is an expert in Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology, and the Founder & Head of the Nanostructured Materials and Nanotechnology Department at the Advanced Materials Institute, Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI), Cairo, Egypt. Shaping the Future of Data Centers: Basis Bay and Universiti Malaya Sign MoU to Revolutionize Data Centre Education

Basis Bay, a leading Malaysian Data Centre and IT solutions provider, and Universiti Malaya, a renowned public research University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Basis Bay Data Centre Foundation Certificate (BBDCFC).

The BBDCFC, the first of its kind in Malaysia, is a cornerstone program within Basis Bay’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) that provides comprehensive training on data centre management, operations, Infrastructure design, security, sustainability and renewable energy. Developed in collaboration with industry experts, the curriculum will offer a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, including case studies, simulations, and potential visits to state-of-the-art data centres.
