MMUNS’s shared values:
The Malaya Model United Nations Society (MMUNS) is driven by a vision of the world in which human sanctity is afforded the plague of war, different opinions are treasured, the planet earth safeguarded, and in which the Malaysia is a valuable member of the United Nations for the value of mankind and sustainability. We promote these values in three ways:
Fostering debate
abo
ut global perils and their resolutions. Every semester we host discussions with both academics and practitioners in the field of international relations. Recently, these speakers have included such figures as Dr Laura Khor from the Global Leadership of the Washington D.C, as well as Adjunct Professor Dr Rajmah Hussain, former Malaysian ambassador to the USA, and the UN headquarters in New York and Geneva. Additionally, every semester we host a talk at one of UM’s faculties and residential colleges with a spirited conversation of a setback in diplomacy and global affairs. Confronting for transformation
in areas where we can make a distinction. We work with other NGOs, student societies and the entire world network of United Nations Associations on campaigns against poverty, environmental degradation and abuse of human rights. Beyond that, we strive to increase understanding of the institutions of multilateral diplomacy, both by inviting speakers to share their experiences and by simulating international bodies through Model United Nations (MUN). Training the future leaders
through our celebrated MUN debating simulations. Join us every Friday during the semester for your chance to become a country’s ambassador to the UN and to try to solve some of the biggest challenges in international relations. Additionally, MMUNS organises delegations to MUN conferences as nearby as Kelang Valley and as far away as Singapore and Australia. We also host our own conference, MalayaMUN each September Semester. Even if you are completely new to MUN, you are more than welcome to join us for any of these events! As such, we are seeking:
1) Students who have previously experienced or participated in any previous MUN or other public speaking related activities,
2) Students with a good command of language, and interested in expanding or improving their public communication skills, and
3) Any good orators who are interested in experiencing the real challenge of working with the UN system and international affairs, which will look good on your CV. History
While MMUNS is recently created, our history of diplomatic simulation and crisis management game is deeply embedded in the teaching and researching about the diplomatic history and United Nations since the 1970s. Our unique position and intellectual dedication to MUN Conference are deeply connected to many of notable University alumnus at the global stage, including Tan Sri Razali Ismail, who is previously served at the UN and a current Advisor of United Nations Association of Malaysia (UNAM).
