🌱 From Waste to Innovation: Inspiring Future STEM Innovators!

On 19–20 August 2026, Tribology and Precision Machining (TriPreM) i-Kohza, Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully launched Series 1 of the STEM Knowledge Transfer Programme at SMK Puteri Wilayah.

Led by Ir. Dr. Shahira Liza Kamis, the programme is supported through the Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) Special Fund by CCIN, TNCPI UTM Kuala Lumpur 2026.

A total of 93 students explored STEM, tribology, sustainability and green technology, while 30 students participated in hands-on activities transforming waste cooking oil into grease. Together with OLEON Port Klang, we aim to nurture future STEM Sustainability Ambassadors.

Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), UTM Kuala Lumpur welcomed a student delegation from Zhejiang University (ZJU), China, comprising nine students from the Graduate School with diverse multidisciplinary backgrounds and six students from the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, representing architecture, civil engineering, and built-environment-related fields. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Ahmad Aiman Azmi, MJIIT Marketing, Corporate and Branding Manager, followed by an introduction to MJIIT and exposure to selected research activities and facilities. The visit provided the students with insights into MJIIT’s multidisciplinary academic and research environment, while encouraging knowledge exchange and greater international academic exposure among students from both institutions.

On 20 July 2026, the MJIIT, UTM Kuala Lumpur, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhongli Chen from the College of Environment and Ecology, Chongqing University, China, for a research engagement. During the visit, Dr. Chen delivered a knowledge-sharing session entitled β€œEmerging Pollutants: Environmental Occurrence, Fate, and Ecological Risk,” highlighting current research on the environmental behavior and ecological implications of emerging contaminants, as well as sharing insights from his research activities in China’s Three Gorges region. The visit also included a research meeting to explore potential collaboration in ecological conservation and management in the Three Gorges region, with opportunities for joint research and knowledge exchange on emerging pollutants, aquatic ecosystem protection, environmental monitoring, and sustainable management. The topics discussed are closely aligned with SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, particularly Target 6.3 on improving water quality by reducing pollution and Target 6.6 on protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems, while strengthening international collaboration in addressing complex environmental challenges.

Engineering Beyond Borders: University of Mindanao Students Explore UTM & MJIIT πŸ‡²πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡΅πŸ‡­

MJIIT was pleased to welcome 33 third- and fourth-year Computer Engineering students from the University of Mindanao, Davao and Tagum, Philippines, for an educational and academic exposure visit to Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur.

The visit provided the students with an opportunity to explore UTM’s academic environment, advanced engineering education, research activities, emerging technologies, and laboratory facilities, while strengthening academic and cultural exchange between Malaysia and the Philippines.

The programme began with an Introduction to UTM by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azaliah Binti Abu Bakar, Associate Director of UTM International Office, Kuala Lumpur, followed by an Introduction to MJIIT, including its computer science-related academic programmes, postgraduate opportunities, research activities and facilities, presented by Dr. Siti Nur Aishah Khadijah Binti Ibrahim.

The students also visited several research laboratories at MJIIT, including:

πŸ”Ή Pattern Recognition and Automation (PRA) iKohza, where Dr. Mohd Amiruddin bin Zainol shared insights into the research and activities conducted by the group.

πŸ”Ή Advanced Precision Laboratory, where Mr. Hairul Lail bin Ismail introduced the students to the laboratory facilities, technologies and related engineering applications.

Madam Hasparina and her team also introduced the students to the Japanese Language and Cultural Centre (JLCC), including its programmes and activities.

Through this visit, the students gained valuable exposure beyond the classroom and a closer understanding of current developments in engineering, technology and research at UTM and MJIIT.

We hope this visit will inspire greater international learning, future academic collaboration, and continued engagement between UTM-MJIIT and the University of Mindanao.
