Sekali lagi kita bersama-sama menyambut Hari Kebangsaan Malaysia, satu detik penuh makna
yang mengingatkan kita tentang perpaduan, pengorbanan, dan semangat juang para pemimpin
kemerdekaan tanah air.
Sebagai warga universiti, kita bukan sahaja pewaris kemerdekaan, tetapi juga penjaga masa
depan negara. Universiti adalah medan ilmu, tempat lahirnya pemimpin, pemikir, dan inovator
yang akan mengangkat martabat Malaysia di persada dunia.
Meniti 69 tahun kemerdekaan, ilmu terus menjadi tunjang dalam membina masa depan negara.
Sebagai sebuah institusi pendidikan tinggi, Perdana University komited untuk memperkasa
generasi muda dengan ilmu, nilai dan peribadi berintegriti agar mereka mampu
mengembangkan potensi diri, menyumbang kepada masyarakat, serta mencorak masa depan
Malaysia.
Kemerdekaan bukan sekadar sebuah peristiwa yang kita raikan, tetapi sebuah amanah yang
perlu kita hayati dan teruskan. Dalam dunia yang semakin mencabar, pendidikan memainkan
peranan penting dalam membentuk generasi yang berilmu, berintegriti, bersatu dan berdaya
saing.
Semoga semangat Merdeka terus menyatukan kita dan menjadi inspirasi untuk
 Mengukuhkan perpaduan dalam kepelbagaian budaya dan bahasa.
 Meningkatkan kecemerlangan akademik dan penyelidikan demi kemajuan bangsa.
 Membentuk mahasiswa berjiwa besar, berintegriti, dan berdaya saing global.

Perdana University Strengthens Academic Presence in Sri Lanka

A significant milestone was achieved in strengthening academic collaboration between Perdana University (PU), Malaysia, and higher education institutions in Sri Lanka.

During the two-day engagement on August 26-27, 2026, Perdana University, represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Razali bin Muhamad, entered into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with representatives of leading Sri Lankan educational institutions:

* Mr. Najimudeen Sainulabdeen, Chairman of Ceylon College of Applied Studies (CCAS)
* Dr. Cader, Chief Executive Officer of Science and Information Technology City (SITC) Campus
* Dr. A.M.M. Barakkath Ali, Managing Director of Golden College City Campus

As part of this important development, Mr. Najimudeen Sainulabdeen has today been officially appointed as the Official Representative of Perdana University in Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, SITC Campus, Ceylon College of Applied Studies (CCAS), and Golden College City Campus have been appointed as Approved Satellite Centres of Perdana University in Sri Lanka.

These appointments and MoUs mark an important step towards establishing and strengthening academic and institutional cooperation between Perdana University and its approved Sri Lankan partners.

Through this collaboration, the institutions aim to promote mutually beneficial educational initiatives, facilitate access to Perdana University’s academic programmes for Sri Lankan students, and create opportunities for the exchange of knowledge, expertise, academic resources, and best practices.

This initiative reflects a shared commitment to expanding international academic cooperation and building sustainable educational partnerships between Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Professor Viren Swami, a social psychologist from Anglia Ruskin University, delivered a public lecture titled Nurtured by Nature: Why Being in Nature is Good for Us. Attended by members of the public (online) and university staff, the session explored comparative evidence from different countries on how access to and engagement with nature can influence health and well-being, particularly in urban environments.

Among the benefits associated with access to green spaces are better physical health, stronger immune function, increased longevity, and improved mental well-being.

Officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Ts. Dr Mohd Razali bin Muhamad, the lecture was then followed by an engaging Q&A session and a roundtable discussion led by RMC Director, Associate Professor Dr Suleiman Murad.

Key highlights of the discussion were:

Prospective Research Collaboration: A prospective collaboration between Perdana University’s Centre for Well-Being in Nature and Professor Viren Swami to explore opportunities for joint research in the area of nature, health, and well-being.

Cross-Cultural Comparative Research: Perdana University and Professor Viren Swami will explore data collection and comparative studies across different cultures and countries, with the aim of understanding how interactions with nature influence health and well-being across diverse social and cultural contexts.

🌱 Research has shown that spending time in natural environments has a range of benefits, including better physical health and psychological well-being. In this talk, Prof Viren Swami looks at the history of using nature to improve well-being before describing what contemporary research has shown. But understanding why those benefits occur is more complex: Prof Swami describes different theories that have been proposed to explain the impacts of nature on well-being. He’ll also discuss what we can all do to reap the benefits of spending time in nature.
