Official launching of the Geology Programme Standard by the Board of Geologists Malaysia . The BSc Applied Geology Programme at UM is consistent with this standard. Hopefully this will lead to professional accreditation in the near future.

Some photos from the recent visit to the School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University, China by our undergraduate students.
The visit, from 18-31st August, is part of a UM-TJU Cultural Exchange Programme focusing on joint geoscience practice and included lectures, lab practicals as well as field trips.

Congratulations to Shannon Khor Jing Hong for winning the gold in the men's 20 km and bronze in the men's 10 km walk at SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026.

An Online PhD Seminar was held between postgraduates of the Department of Geology, Universiti Malaya and Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, Russia on the 20th May 2026. Eleven students presented their work, which covered topics on minerals including Tin, Gold and Potash, as well as research on Rare Earth Elements (REE), CO2 Sequestration, Geophysics, Ore Deposits Deformation, Mine Explosives and Mineral Resource Policy.
