Did you know splashing pedestrians with water or mud while driving is actually illegal in Japan? 💦🚗

This is because it is a violation of Japan's Road Traffic Act. If you soak a pedestrian while driving on a rainy day (or right after it rains), you won't lose points on your license, but you could face a fine of up to ¥7,000 (approximately RM176). 🇯🇵

Depending on the situation, you could also be on the hook for cleaning costs, damaged belongings, legal fees or even compensation if the victim has to miss work. 👔💧

The lesson? Give pedestrians priority and slow down near puddles because a moment of carelessness can turn into a real headache. 🌧️

The Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) is preparing to phase out the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) exam, introducing a new pathway called the New Bar Course (NBC). This comes after calls to reform the CLP and revive the Common Bar Course. 🏛️

📚 The NBC notably maintains all substantive content of the CLP, moving toward more experiential and adaptive learning. It comprises a 12-week online Conversion Course and a 6-month Legal Practice Postgraduate Certificate (LPPC).

The former is targeted at foreign law graduates needing grounding in Malaysia's legal system, while the latter prepares all non-qualifying law degree holders for pupillage. 🧑🏻‍🎓🎓

💼 According to a Bar Council circular issued 21 July 2026, the reform follows a needs analysis of 1,495 stakeholders. 72% of whom felt the CLP doesn't adequately prepare graduates for pupillage, flagging gaps in advocacy, drafting, bilingual capability and tech competence among other areas.

⚖️ LPQB's NBC task force is now running a 12-month operational study (May 2026 to April 2027) with input from public universities, private institutions and the Malaysian Bar, ahead of a phased roll-out from 2026 to 2029.

📌 For now, the CLP remains the applicable route, and candidates should continue preparing for it as usual.

ATC has emerged as 1st runner up in the national IP Law Moot Competition. We were represented by Ms. Lee Wai Ying (UKT Year 2) and Ms. Lara Ashley Kaur Lopez (UKT Year 1). They were coached by our Moot coach Mr. Kenneth Koh.

The win continues a proud tradition of success in national and international moot competitions by our students.
