The Centre for Research in Biotechnology for Agriculture (CEBAR) is a centre of research excellence at the University of Malaya whose mission is to “create a platform for world class research, development, applications and training with outputs and products that interface between the fundamental and applied sciences.” In addition to its focus on research, a major objective of CEBAR is also to stre
ngthen, promote and synergize links with industry with a vision to bridge academic research and industry needs. Current focus of CEBAR is on biosecurity and biosafety for topical agricultural systems. This encompasses traditional areas (food, feed, biomaterials) and emerging areas (biofuel/energy, bioindustrial and biopharmaceutical), targeting niche areas such as genetic resources and diversity (agricultural plants, fresh water animals), gene discovery (genomics, transcriptome, proteomics, metabolomics, etc), transgenic research (plant / animal / microbe), production systems (tissue culture / reactor), biological/physical containment and related social, policy and legal matters.
