๐ŸŒฟ PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHT | DAPUR HIJAU: EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT

KUALA TERENGGANU, 15 August 2026 โ€” The Institute of Halal Research and Training (INHART), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in collaboration with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and JPKK Kampung Jati, successfully organised the Dapur Hijau Programme at Balai Raya Kampung Jati, Kuala Terengganu.

The programme focused on promoting responsible domestic waste management and sustainable household practices, particularly through the conversion of organic household waste into useful compost.

Among the key activities conducted was a domestic waste management session, followed by a hands-on composting technique demonstration. Participants were introduced to practical approaches for managing organic household waste and the use of Effective Microorganisms (EM4) to support the composting process.

The programme was facilitated by representatives from INHART, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry bin Nordin and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wan Syibrah Hanisah binti Wan Sulaiman, together with Dr. Norazilawati binti Md Dahlal from UUM.

A significant component of the programme was the distribution of composting kits to individual households, enabling participants to apply the knowledge and techniques gained directly in their own homes. This practical approach aims to encourage continued community participation in reducing organic waste while producing a valuable resource for household use.

The Dapur Hijau initiative reflects the commitment of INHART and its partners to translate sustainability knowledge into practical community-based action. By empowering households with the knowledge, tools and skills to manage organic waste, the programme contributes towards fostering more sustainable lifestyles and environmentally responsible communities.
