🎌 Talk: Employment Policies for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Japan.

Alhamdulillah, we were very honored to welcome Prof. Jun Nakagawa from Tokyo's Keizei University to give a presentation of his research on the employment policies relating to persons with disabilities in Japan.

We have benefited from the exchange of views and information relating to the topic, especially in making comparisons between the Japanese and Malaysian experiences. Prof. Jun's research enlightened us on the complex factors that impact employability rates and how they are analyzed. This is especially vital in upholding the rights of PwDs and in holding hiring organisations accountable.

The discussions also explored the possibilities of joint research in this important area with IIUM. Further discussions will follow as the way forward insya’Allah.

📚 Book Talk: Autism Bukan Ciptaan Rosak

Alhamdulillah, our very own Nur Arif was invited to University Putra Malaysia (UPM) to give a talk on his latest publication, Autism Bukan Ciptaan Rosak.

This small-scaled book talk was held to bring more awareness on his newest publication. It had already been officially launched just this year in June, detailing the real, lived experiences of an autistic man wading through academia. With insights and reflections of his time in IIUM, Nur Arif challenges us of our preconceived notions surrounding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), showcasing that with the right resources, even those with special needs have the potential to achieve a successful life.

Nur Arif, as moderated by UPM's Officer for Disability Support Sister Marlina Muslim, shared sneak peeks of what is to be experienced through this memoir. Sister Marlina was just as keen as our small audience, posing their questions about his experiences, Fiqh surrounding ASD and even asking for advice for themselves or family members affected by the condition.

IIUM's DSU extends its deepest appreciation for this opportunity. Insha Allah, though it was quick, we hope that this talk brings forth more curiosities from the public, albeit how different individuals with ASD may be from the typical society.
