UMT allocates RM650,343 in scholarships to attract international students
Kuala Nerus: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has allocated a total of RM650,343 in scholarship funds, benefiting 60 postgraduate students through the UMT Vice-Chancellor Scholarship (UMTVC) initiative and the UMT Alumni Discount. This effort aims to strengthen academic excellence and enhance the university’s global competitiveness.
UMT Vice-Chancellor, Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, stated that the university is committed to ensuring the allocation is utilized strategically. Of the total, RM172,260 has been used so far, while the remaining RM478,083 will be specifically focused on international students in the fields of Science and Social Sciences.
“To maximize this initiative, UMT emphasizes a targeted distribution approach to attract more high-quality international students, while also strengthening the university’s academic ecosystem,” he said.
He added that this approach aligns with UMT’s aspiration to enhance academic excellence and improve the institution’s reputation at the international level.
One of the scholarship recipients, Nur Aleya Farisha Norihan, 24, a Bachelor of Science (Material Chemistry) student, described the financial assistance as an important support in continuing her studies.
“Financial support like this greatly helps me in managing expenses and also motivates me,” she said.
“It allows me to fully focus on research and academic projects without worrying about tuition costs,” she added.
In addition, UMT also offers flexible study programs tailored to students’ needs and well-being, especially for those facing financial constraints or personal issues, to ensure that their learning process can continue without interruption.
