السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
New Delhi, 30 March 2026 – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Affendi Mohd Shafri (Department of Biomedical Science, KAHS, IIUM) is currently participating at an international Certificate Course in Applied Machine Learning held in New Delhi, India.
The programme is organised by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Scheme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and runs from 30 March to 10 April 2026. His participation, including international airfare, local transportation, accommodation, and meals, is fully sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
A total of 15 participants from six countries - Malaysia (2), Cambodia (8) Tajikistan (1), Kazakhstan (2), Uganda (1), and Ethiopia (1) - are taking part in this capacity-building initiative, aimed at enhancing expertise in advanced machine learning and fostering international collaboration.
Joining him is his PhD student, Muhammad Alif Basar, an officer from the Ministry of Digital and a doctoral candidate at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM. Their participation contributes to an ongoing Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Affendi as Principal Researcher and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee. The FRGS project focuses on the development of an integrated biomedical database, leveraging data mined from traditional Malay medical manuscripts, botanical repositories, as well as pharmaceuticals, proteomics and genomics sources. The initiative incorporates predictive elements designed for research applications and is projected to integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities in future phases.
This participation reflects the university’s continued commitment to strengthening global academic engagement and advancing expertise in emerging digital technologies.
